Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina Torres.
Cristina, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m a fashion and portrait photographer from Puerto Rico and started back in 2011. Photography first came to me when I took a basic photography class in college, it surprises me how easy it felt and how good my photos looked for a beginner. Since the beginning I always loved photographing details, monochrome colors, portraits and loved being creative with light. Basically, a minimalist style but it took me years to see it.
After I graduated in 2011 I started working in a multimedia studio where I learned a lot from the agency an TV commercials industry. It helped me shaped all the areas I can think of: motion graphics, 3D animation, video editing, videography, photography, producer and graphic design.
Things got difficult in the industry so I started working a clinic for disable children where I learned a lot about business and administrative side. By 2015 things took a huge turn, my mom passed away. And this motivated me to move to Miami in 2016. My whole life I dedicated to my mom so when this happened I decided to live my life and work on my dreams. She inspires me on everything I do.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I consider myself a versatile artist. I love doing anything that helps me create and brings happiness and balance to my life. I’ve been through a lot of artistic phases and I love doing them all, I can’t focus on only one thing in my entire whole life because that would bring me a lot of misbalance. I love being versatile and express my creativity through different mediums.
Everything started drawing, that was my first phase. Then in High School I learned paint so that become my second phase. In college I learned graphic design, videography, digital arts, production, photography and finally graduated with a degree in Science of Digital Animation. It was part of the degree to learn that much variety of mediums and platforms. After that I just started experimenting and exploring which areas I would like to make my career in.
I believe my family is my inspiration, from my grandma to my siblings, we are all creative and artistic in our own ways. They inspire me daily and even help me with my freelance work!
I hope people take away a second or shot of natural and simple emotions, a moment to shift and transport themselves to a beautiful and natural being. Also, a moment to enjoy the beauty of fashion and makeup art.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Be patient, persistent, positive and listen carefully to others critics. Sometimes critics can actually help us in certain areas we think we don’t need help. Don’t be scared to share your work, and don’t stop creating and evolving.
I wish I could have learned earlier that is ok to make mistakes, and this is not a race so just take your time. Focus on yourself and enjoy the ride!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work is available online through my website and in my Instagram account. And the best support I can receive is through social media, sharing and enjoying my work!
