Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Mitchell.
Christopher, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Well, my story is rather long, but I suppose my love of writing and photography was instilled in me when I studied in Dublin in 2006. After that, I was hooked on travel but, more importantly, hooked on capturing my travels and sharing it. Since living in Dublin, Ireland, I’ve lived in countries like Norway, Nicaragua, Turkey and South Korea, and I’ve continued to capture my experiences in a number of ways. I also have more recently really got into the vibe of Miami, and I was there most recently in late July to shoot more of Miami Beach, as well as Wynwood.
The one constant really has been my travel blog, www.travelingmitch.com, which was recently rated as one of the top 250 travel blogs on the planet. Photography is also a huge part of my life, and I try to showcase some of what I’m interested in on my Instagram page which you can find at the handle @travelingmitch (www.instagram.com/travelingmitch).
Now, I’m based out of Toronto and busier and more excited than ever to continue my journey with my website, social media, as well as writing for regularly for magazines around the world.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Writing is my primary form of expression, but I’m really about “telling stories.” Sometimes, I like to tell those stories through photography, and sometimes I like to tell those stories through writing. It’s also not unusual for me to turn to video more these days, but writing is my real passion. Writing, in a sense, is how I make sense of the world – a world which is seemingly getting increasingly more complicated by the day.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Hm, it’s an interesting question. To be honest, I’m not sure I know what “success” looks like for me right now. I’ve hit a lot of targets that I’d previously set out for myself, but in many senses, I’ve just sort of moved the yardstick. Success for me then I suppose is really about chasing an unattainable dream, but living my dream because of that approach. I suppose what I feel is the essential element is drive and determination. You’ll get nowhere if your dreams don’t seep into every part of your reality and become your fuel.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Well, it really just depends on what people are interested. People can see a large body of my work on my website at www.travelingmitch.com, as well as see my writing for others at www.travelingmitch.com/portfolio, but you can also find me on Twitter, Instagram at @travelingmitch, or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/travelingmitch.
If you reach out to me on any platform, I’ll be sure to get back to you. I love interacting with people who take the time to interact with my work.
