Today we’d like to introduce you to Alpha Quadrant.
Alpha, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Alpha Quadrant is a future synth/synthwave band that was formed in November of 2016 by KC Killjoy (Synthmaster) and Kayla Bee (Lead Vocalist). Drawing inspiration from the 1980’s italo disco, new retrowave, and space synth scenes, KC and Kayla assimilated the genres into the futuristic sounds you hear today.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
We began Alpha Quadrant as a way to express ourselves emotionally and creatively, but to also have an outlet to connect with new people on a more galactic scale. We really enjoy meeting other artists and fans who have a passion for synth music and even those who have just learned about it. When people hear Alpha Quadrant, we want them to escape reality and get lost in the music.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
In some ways it has become easier, like for example the independent artist/musician/band has control where record labels used to, which is great. On the other hand, gentrification of the art districts in big cities has priced out a lot of the young and emerging artists, as well as some established ones, from being able to live, grow, and flourish in their cities. The best way for artists to grow and gain exposure is by having the community come together and help support one another. Local events and publications, such as this and others, are fantastic outlets for artists to showcase themselves and their passions to the public.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Alpha Quadrant can be heard on many platforms, including iTunes and Spotify, but the EP can be purchased on Bandcamp (www.alphaquadrantofficial.bandcamp.com) along with some really cool and unique AQ merchandise. We are also on Instagram (@alphaqdrnt) and Facebook (@alphaquadrantofficial) which is where we interact with our fans and post dates for our live appearances. So far, we have played in West Palm, Fort Lauderdale, and Jacksonville, but we have more shows on the horizon.
