Rising Stars: Meet Ronnell Luster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronnell  Luster.

Hi Ronnell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Hello, my name is Ronnell The CEO of Nelly’s Cosmetics, I’m a homeschooler that lives in Miami Florida. I started Nelly’s Cosmetics as a lash brand for teenagers my age to have access to eco-friendly affordable lashes + lash care.

We started out with lash serums and shampoos because girls my age are just letting ANYONE put on their lashes which are making them lose their lashes and most people don’t even have any. I grew up getting my makeup done a lot because of dance and acting so it only seemed right that I should learn how to do my own makeup the way that I liked it to look because most makeup artists did it weirdly…

Everything from my logo, website, photography, and content, everything is designed by me. One day, I decided to make a cartoon version of myself, Ronnie, we gave her the name Ronnie because that is another nickname of mine, and “Nelly” is already everywhere, I like to think of Ronnie as an alter ego or me in another reality.

I drew her myself. But I did get a lot of help from Kelly and Micheal (from YOUmedia) with actually bringing a lot of what I had in mind to live in the beginning. With my business I’ve hosted a few popup shops for teens/kids with my mom I’ve been featured on the radio and just recently I was a guest for an event with s.e.e.k. Foundation is another Miami-based business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been pretty smooth. I’m homeschooled and graduating early so that definitely helps with making the pressure of other people my age not as bad because through social media I barely see it. But it only kind of makes it harder because I have to work twice as hard to get my business known.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
A lot of people don’t know this about me but I used to be a dancer, I was a dancer for 5 LONG years, and I also was very big on acting musical theatre, and instruments. I learned to play the violin and the piano.

I’m just a dare-devil person and id try just about anything. And I love how with my business I can tie all of it together, and I honestly can’t wait until the cartoon animation that I’m working on is in full effect because it definitely shows a lot more about myself through the characters.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Honestly, TikTok is the only place id say helps me a lot. I’ve gone viral multiple times for multiple different reasons on there since the pandemic. I personally love TikTok.
