Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvain Denis.
Sylvain is a photographer born and raised in Montreal, Canada. Currently residing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he works as a freelance photographer specializing in portrait, fashion, physique, and promotional-commercial work, The studio is also an art gallery where you can view the collection of fine art prints of his American SouthWest collection.
Sylvain’s interest in photography began at a young age, influenced by his own experience as a model for a fitness publication based in New York City.
While living in New York City, Sylvain’s work encompassed a wide spectrum of commissions, running the gamut from assignments for Time Magazine, photographing athletes in the USA and Europe for American and European publications to shooting high fashion, collaborating with top stylists and designers.
Sylvain’s commercial work has appeared in magazines both nationally and internationally.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
While creating the American Southwest collection I have hiked high mountains in the cold winter elevation or in the extreme summer heat down the bottom of the Grand Canyon with over 50lb. of camera gears plus, seen hail in the month of July, got a rental car stuck in desert sand dunes hours away from civilization. etc
As a photographer it has been a real and fun adventure.
Sylvain Denis photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I studied at the International Center of Photography in New York City. I did further study at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, mastering his skills in photography, lighting, graphic design, and Photoshop techniques.
In 2017, I will return to Philadelphia to be a guest speaker in photography at the University of The Arts.
I have curated a show called Art With A Heart sponsored by the foundation called Poverello who operates as a not for profit critical needs food pantry. The mostly all-volunteer organization enhances and promotes life by providing food to youth, women and men living with HIV / AIDS who are at poverty level or below and residing in Broward County. November 5 – 2016 I donated portion of the sales of my arts to the foundation, The proceed went towards continue helping children in our community.
After its great success, the event will be taking place again on November 4th 2017 at our studio/gallery, 1310 SW 2nd Court, Fort Lauderdale, FL. From 6 till 10pm.
In 2014, I was a finalist in the prestigious One Eyeland worldwide award competition. My photographs appear in the Best of the Best Photographers 2015, One Eyeland Book Volume 5.
My work was featured in the Scope SeeMe Exhibition at Art Basel 2014 in Miami, Florida.
In 2017 I was featured as a creative professional photographer on an episode of PBS South Florida.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Making a living doing what you love, teaching sharing ideas, doing gallery shows meeting peoples, answering questions.
Producing great images for my clients.
