Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakisha Bryant.
Lakisha, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got started during a difficult time in my life where I was unable to hold a job due to medical conditions. Therefore, I took the initiative to find out what I like to do the most. I’ve always been a creative person, so I became attracted to graphic design. As I researched, I found that it was something I liked and I begin to teach myself how to do it.
Within a few months or so, I was on my way to learning new things and how to design and developing my own technique and workflow. I applied for a few graphic design jobs and found that my work was viewed as great and professional quality and was questioned on where I went to school and everything. And when they found out, I taught myself I was hired on the spot at two t-shirt shops where I gained business knowledge and how to deal with certain things and situations.
I am where I am today because I refused to give up on myself no matter the circumstances. I pushed and pushed to make something of myself and I have been recommended and complimented for the many different shirts and projects I’ve completed for others. I am still growing, but I’ve grown a lot from where I started and now my children are into the creative world right along with me, which is even more inspiring for me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I started with little to no money. Loss of money I couldn’t afford to lose. I had to provide for my kids and household to eventually leaving what became a very bad and unhealthy marriage. Learning curves were there because I was teaching myself from scratch and trying to figure out software and machines and basic techniques to compare to those who actually went to school for Graphic Design.
Please tell us about your business.
Synergetic Designz is a graphic design company. It’s centered around working with people and bringing their visions or desires to life through graphics. I specialize in T-shirt and Apparel designing, but I offer other services that go in the line of graphic design also.
I am most known for my 3D shirts. But I’ve done so many different types of things from shirts to business cards and flyers. I am most proud of how I’ve been able to build from the bottom up and growing with the favor of God on my side. I think the way I am able to design and visualize a design is what sets me apart from the others.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I am playing basketball for my middle school team Westview Middle School.
