Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerisha Desinord.
Hi Kerisha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was at Park Lakes Elementary banging on the tables at lunch trying to freestyle. I was 10 years old. Never in a million years did I think I’d fall in love with music. I was in 6th grade when I first rapped in front of a group of people. Everyone in my classroom were 7th and 8th graders they were all impressed at how lyrical I was at such a young age. Since then, Queen Kiki was birthed. Inspired by Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, & more I started writing music every single day. Growing up in a Haitian household they strictly enforced education. So being an artist, they didn’t necessarily take my career seriously. My father wanted me to be a lawyer. My Mother wanted me to be a nurse. Once I started doing shows, interviews, & actually making money behind the music, they eventually came around.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The Industry is very cutthroat. As a female artist, the men in the industry don’t necessarily take us seriously. I’ve had engineers play in my face. They’d have their friends in my session as if I wasn’t paying. I remember going to do a show once, & the Dj didn’t want to play my music. One guy even told me I rap like every other female! I didn’t let any of these challenges discourage me. In fact, it motivated me to go harder. This is only the beginning.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
