Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Gutierrez.
Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always had this assumption that the way to grow was to overwork myself in a 9-5 desk job. Eventually, I realized that in order for me to fulfill my dream of changing my quality of life, I would have to take risks and put complacency aside. I had to take the leap and put behind my corporate job and go chase my dreams! Coming from the financial and wealth management industry, I knew how to work and deal with people, so what better way to put my experience to work than to pursue a career in Real Estate and help others with their own dreams. I immediately signed up for real estate school and quickly became the new “rookie” in the real estate division of my wealth management firm.
After learning from great mentors and colleagues, I was presented with an offer I could not turn down. The opportunity to work with my sister in her real estate brokerage, Florida R&M Realty. I mean, what better way to continue my growth than to have my own sister teach me the way! Together we have created an amazing bond and “team,” I just hit the ground running. Through this process, I married and became pregnant not once but twice. I am a mother of a beautiful toddler girl and a baby boy. This is when the two pieces came together and made sense. Having the ability to spend more time with them by not being tied down to my 9-5 made it all that much more special. I am growing every day and I look forward to what the future holds, the best is yet to come!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a mother of two and a businesswoman is definitely difficult. I have always been ambitious and with a vision of running my own business and brand, but that in itself is not easy and never a smooth road. I have had to endure many challenges in my career as a Realtor/Boss Mom, first with competition in the over-saturated city of Miami, and second, balancing it all out while being a mom. There has been plenty of times I’ve had to do showings and closings with a baby because I had no one to watch over my daughter and I simply had to slap on a smile and make it work. After that, I continued to strive in my business as a pregnant woman carrying a toddler. Nothing ever stopped me; on the contrary, it pushed me to realize that what I wanted and envisioned for myself was bigger and more powerful than any struggle. I have always known that client satisfaction is the number one priority and that I have to get it done no matter what. Receiving referral after referral made me understand that nothing was impossible and that I had to embrace all the obstacles and simply be me and give clients my all, never compromising their best interest and time.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I have been a Realtor now for over ten years and have built my brand, Real Estate, by Jess G. I have taken advantage of the popularity and marketing power of social media and created a place where I can post listings, ideas and decorating tips, recommendations and much more. My focus is directed but not limited to the purchasing and selling of residential Real Estate. I find that a good real estate agent does not just sell properties—they sell themselves. I am very personable and honest, have confidence in my abilities and my tenacity to pursue every lead and my hustle is impeccable. I do whatever is necessary to close the deal.
At Florida R&M Realty we have a network of contacts within the industry, we are a one-stop-shop! Staying up to date on local market and real estate news allows me to service clients more effectively. Continuing education and professional development are doors to new and invigorating opportunities. At the end of the day, you get out of it what you put into it. Having a desire to control your own professional destiny and be your own boss is a trait! There is definitely a big investment in time, energy, and money necessary to make any business successful. Real estate is no different. If you are passionate about real estate and give it your all, you can separate yourself and outshine the competition.
What were you like growing up?
Looking back at my childhood, it is no surprise that I’ve grown up to be a confident and independent boss, mom! Since I was little, I was the prissy girl who would ask mom for makeup, heels, and purses. Even trips to the playground required some fixing-up. Having lived in Miami, New York, and Colombia, I have had the opportunity to experience different cultures that have inspired me along the way. I am extremely proud of my Colombian roots and it shows in my strong and confident personality. Growing up, my father always had his own business, so I always knew that at one point, I wanted to have the freedom to be my own boss. Always having a desire to control my own professional destiny and be my own boss have gotten me to where I am now. I have also always had a passion for music and dancing, which opened the door to another venture, becoming a salsa instructor. One last thing, I always dreamed of finding the perfect husband and having beautiful babies – I guess some dreams do come true!
