Meet Genie Baby of Crybaby Doll Fashion in Broward County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Genie Baby.

Genie Baby, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m still in the beginning stages of my modeling journey, but a lot has happened to get me here. It started the summer before my freshman year of high school. My father found a casting event at a convention center nearby. Unfortunately, I didn’t make the cut. Heartbroken, I gave up modeling up until I made a friend who happened to be an amazing artist and bellydancer. We went to many events and performed together (and eventually created a troupe with two other amazing dancers). Finding my home in that community slowly made me more comfortable in front of a camera. It wasn’t until after years of on and off modeling that I decide to fully immerse myself in it. In 2018 I went to the Museum of Ice Cream in Miami with a very sweet friend and took advantage of all the cute sculptures and artwork. I had what felt like my first proper photoshoot. I was completely in my element and had so much fun. Everything came naturally and when I got the pictures from my friend, I cried because I was blown away by how well I did. Every time I felt like giving up, the fire inside me grew bigger. The more I expressed myself, the more people and amazing, fashionable creatives showed me love. I’ve made so many friends that share the same love for unique fashion and secured my first interview with VoyageMIA which I am so grateful for!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Two things that I struggled with the most were body image and personal style. Growing up, I never felt beautiful or desirable in any way which didn’t help me progress due to self-esteem issues. My personal style didn’t come together until last year when I stopped caring about what those around me thought and let myself experiment until I became the layered, monochromatic pile of black clothing you see now.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m still very new to all this, but my services include fashion and video modeling, go-go dancing, creative directing and wardrobe styling. I focus heavily on fetish inspired looks and Japanese street fashion, but I am also open to other styles. I am so proud of how I showcase my work which works best in minimalist spaces, making the outfit the focus point. I think what sets me apart is all the different aesthetics I play with and the editorial execution of them all. I try to make my photos as eye-catching as possible pairing it with striking poses.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I honestly don’t feel like luck has been present throughout this journey! In general, you get what you put out into the world and I feel like that applies to social media.
