Today we’d like to introduce you to Enrique Urdaneta.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Enrique. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was a kid I spent most of the weekends and vacations in our family farm, I spent most of the time riding horses, and when I was a teenager I learned how to train them. First, I studied business, but I didn’t have that passion for it, It took me a few years to realize that what I really wanted to study was Animal Science, I really enjoyed those years learning all about animals.
I worked at our farm for a few years and then met and married my beautiful wife, moved to the city and started working at a Bank managing the agricultural loans department. I grew in the corporation for 15 years to the top levels but then due to the harsh political situation in our country we decided to move to the United States in 2010. When we arrived I had plenty of time in my hands and decided to start a Biodiesel business and also learned another passion of mine, photography. Very close to my home is Wellington, the Equestrian Capital of the World, it didn’t take much time to start visiting and photographing horses.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had to start all over again when we moved to the USA, a new culture, new friends, new business, a new language, not easy. I had a lot of bumps in the road, the biodiesel business started really great, then the oil price went way down and I had to quit my shares of the business. So, I Started a Business brokerage and also decided to turn my photography hobby into a business, but the first bump was that there is an equine season, December to April, the rest of the year Wellington is like a ghost town for equestrians.
Since I was in the corporate world for so many years I figured out that it would be interesting to offer corporate photography to professionals and companies, started doing it and I wasn’t that good, so I looked for the best headshot photographer in the world and started learning from him, Peter Hurley and his Crewmember platform has made a big impact and difference in my photography career. Now, I can say, that I offer top quality headshot and corporate photography.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Year-round I do Headshots, and Corporate photography, I work with my clients to get their best in front of the camera. Most of my clients are not models and most of the time they feel awkward and freeze in front of the camera, my job is to help them relax, have fun and teach them how to look good and approachable in pictures without fake smiles.
Once a week I work with local brands to create lifestyle photos for their web and social media. Clothing, and accessories, jewelry brands and designers, influencers, bloggers, DJs, performers and many more. My job is to find the talent, makeup artist, hair-stylist, wardrobe stylist and put together the story. Since I work with small businesses, I always look for successful ways of getting all done at a very affordable price for the brands.
From December to April, many equestrians reach out to do their portraits with their horses and pets, or sometimes they want artistic portraits of their horse. I also give some of my time to two Equestrian charities that I really enjoy working with them, Brooke USA and Florida TRAC.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Attention to detail, every day I learn something and the more I learn the more I realize that a great photo is about little details. Customer Service, I don’t let go until I feel or know that the client is thrilled with the photos. Perseverance, If you believe in what you are doing, you have to continue doing it and persevere, and once you accomplish it, keep going…
