Today we’d like to introduce you to Dina and Elana Solomon.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dina and Elana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We are sisters, so our story truly began as children. Our grandfather owned a luxury womenswear boutique and our grandmother was his muse. We grew up in an environment appreciating fashion and the powerful nonverbal voice it gives its wearer. We both did our Master’s in Fashion at the London College of Fashion and went on to work in London for designers including couturier Roland Mouret, stylist Rebekah Roy and showroom BLM. Ultimately, we decided that the best use of our skills and network was to start our own fashion consultancy business. We eventually moved to the States and started building up our styling business, Stylishly Solomon. Today we have a social media presence with over 20k followers. We do virtual and in-person styling appointments, style photoshoots, build wardrobe lookbooks for clients, curate and host events, and work with brands including Nicki Roxx, Veronica Beard, Saks Fifth Avenue, TheRealReal, and Jennifer Zeuner to promote their collections.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a business never is an effortless process or one without struggle. We started to find success abroad but when relocating to South Florida, we found the market very challenging. We didn’t know or understand the needs of the local consumer and thought it was necessary to start over with a new approach. We felt we needed to integrate into the community through working with American retailers, including Saks Fifth Avenue and Intermix. There we were able to understand the market and help reshape our voice to reach these new clients.
Building trust and creating a presence locally was not easy. When we are working with clients, our goal is not to style women and men in our personal taste. This was difficult, in the beginning, for clients to understand as many stylists dress their clients in the stylist’s personal taste. We do not have a look that clearly reflects that aesthetic that is common here, which we found intimidated by new clients. Creating opportunities to show clients that we are not trying to create versions of ourselves was challenging and now, after three years, we have been able to grow our presence through client recommendations and networking. Our ultimate goal is to inspire women with our style without stifling their voice stylistically.
Stylishly Solomon – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Stylishly Solomon is a wardrobe consultancy business; we create digital content and work with brands to promote their latest collections. We are sisters and stylists and our tastes our very different, so when we work with clients and or create content, we are coming from different creative perspectives. Our company produces content to inspire clients to create looks that are reflections on their own personal taste. Through Amazon Fashion, ShopBop, and LiketoKnow.it, clients can shop our looks. Through TikTok, clients can learn fashion hacks and tips.
We are fashion stylists in the purest form. Our brand is a concierge approach to personal shopping and styling, whether in person or virtually. We curate clients’ seasonal wardrobes and create lookbooks for them to have access to right at their fingers tips!
It is our lifelong dream to build a business where we can work together. Seeing that dream come to fruition is something that fills us with such joy and pride! Getting the opportunity to style incredible people (virtually and in-person) and working with brands that we love is a dream come true! One of our most special connections has been meeting and collaborating with the photographer, Christina Claire Esposito. She is our visual soulmate and our dearest friend! She has helped us shape our vision both in terms of photography and our brand. She has helped us transform our brand and, as our creative director develops our social media and outreach.
Growing our platform has allowed us to lend a charitable voice to causes we believe in and that privilege is something we truly honor. We will be hosting an event with Veronica Beard at the end of June in which proceeds go to the Good+ Foundation, which helps low-income families. Many have been particularly devestated by Covid-19. It is such an incredible use of our platform and we are so proud to be apart of it!
We are new to this community and have been able to, in a short time, build a loyal and growing group of clients who trust our guidance, advise, and have opened up their hearts to us as well! Our clients know day or night, they can reach out to us for anything they need and we will be their virtually or in person.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Success as stylists is not just having an experience with a brand or client but having a relationship. Recommendations are the key to our success. Clients know that they can trust us, that we will always be honest in our opinion and never push products or trends. They know we will always be available to them and know the best brands for their body type and needs. Brands know that we will always be authentic and showcase their collections in an elevated and in a versatile fashion as well as advise them on clients’ needs from a place of knowledge. Our relationships are built on the idea that we are collaborating and working to promote a personality and lifestyle.
