Today we’d like to introduce you to Cary Sochin.
Cary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As former professional tennis player, I was always involved in fitness as part of my training and kind of fell into the fitness business when I decided to stop competing professionally. I went with my father to ensure he didn’t get “ripped” off when joining the local Gold’s Gym.
I struck up a conversation with the owner, we hit it off and he asked if I would come on as the GM… from there I was recruited to join a fitness company that had recently opened a club in Miami Beach (Club Body Tech). As I was the significant player in our financial success and growth to 4 clubs I was awarded managing partner status. With an imminent sale to Crunch Fitness I decided to try my hand at consulting rather than stay on with a corporate position.
For the next 15+ years I consulted for numerous fitness and tennis clubs as well as coached and traveled with several international tennis players as they competed in junior and professional events across the globe.
I eventually decided to own and operate my own club again and opened clubX in 2012. In 2015, I partnered to open VibeClass Fitness with plans to franchise the concept. We currently have 3 locations, with 2 more corporately operated locations opening soon and franchise locations soon coming.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Always ups and downs in all businesses…the largest struggle is staffing and overcoming the public’s perception of the fitness industry as a whole, as we operate completely differently than the standard customer experience, but one has to actually experience it to understand and appreciate the differences.
