Today we’d like to introduce you to Andres Urdaneta.
Andres, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
First thing you should know about me is that I am Venezuelan. In 2016 I graduated from Zulia University as a lawyer. However, due to the rapid decadence of the social political and economic situation in Venezuela, I saw myself forced out of the country. By 2017 I packed all the clothes I could fit in my luggage, my two favorite books Rayuela by Julio Cortazar, and 100 Años de Soledad By Grabriel Garcia Marquez, and $1000 to my name.
As an immigrant, I started filling out my paperwork seeking for political asylum. Forced by my new immigration status, I had to seek work as a construction worker… Suddenly, I was doing physical labor; the type of work had never envisioned as I stepped on the podium to receive my law degree. While I constantly tried to get out of the industry, I often found myself out competed for the simple fact that my job history in the US was inexistent. In other words, I was in a chicken and the egg dilemma where I needed working experience to acquire experience.
In August of 2019, I decided to take another leap of faith by quitting my job in search of new opportunities. Software development kept reappearing throughout my research, and I decided to learn more about the industry. One day I came across an article about Web Development Bootcamp and their ability to provide students a kickstart into the tech industry… the problem is I did not have to money to afford one. I tried to get a loan but every bank refused to give me money due to my lack of credit history. I started to apply for scholarships as a last resource… and to my surprise, The Knight Foundation and Microsoft gave me an interview for their scholarship at Wyncode Academy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My path into the technology industry and towards becoming an entrepreneur has not been a smooth road. There have been long days, frustrating nights, as well as enriching experiences and unforgettable friendships made along the way. Surprisingly, I have been able to enjoy this path immensely because of the support of my family, the Wyncode community, and my partners at BiscayneDevs. Since Wyncode’s orientation day, I’ve been exposed to the world of technology and have the opportunity to learn from the greatest minds in South Florida’s tech and entrepreneurial scene.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Biscayne Devs – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
BiscayneDevs is a digital development solutions company. Our work experience ranges from simple websites, web applications, to software development and mobile applications. BiscayneDevs originated in Wyncode’s 35th Cohort and was founded by Andres Urdaneta, Andres Mejias, and Gustavo Abdelnour. We are three Venezuelans dedicated to foster innovation and technology in South Florida. We are very proud to be able to apply all the teachings from Wyncode and to be pursuing the path of entrepreneurship.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Currently, we are very focused on our clients today. We want to make sure we deliver our clients the best developing experience possible. We understand this is the right way to build our reputation as a technology startup company. As our reputation continues to grow, we would like to hire the top local South Florida talent in order to create a highly competitive and agile team. Bootcamps like Wyncode Academy, Iron Hack and other are truly preparing their students to hit the ground running after graduation, we know this from first experience and hope to provide upcoming graduates with more opportunities in the tech industry.
