Maria CUNIER

My name is Maria Cunier, and known on Instagram and social media as @mcunier, I consider myself ageless and I am a Stylist and Image consultant, I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As a young adult, I lived in Zurich and Paris, setting in the USA from more then 10 years ago, I divide my time between South Beach, Boston, and NYC. From my experiences, I consider myself an International stylist and Image Consultant.

My career started, as a personal shopper and then styling my clients. I was always exposed to different cultures and ethnicities and living in different countries made embrace even more the difference in the world.

I had the opportunity to manager and style  Musicians from Africa, and Music became a big inspiration in my work, making me enjoy more a creative approach when it comes to styling my clients. I started to want to use fashion to help my clients with their image and brand.

I like to inspire and be inspired by my clients. I call this process “ a collaborative effort” .

Since Music became a big part of my inspiration for my work , an embrace more the  work with underground and upcoming musicians in the construction of their style and image.

I am not managing the career of African Musicians , it is a full time job that I can’t dedicate now.

I prefer focus in inspire people with my work as a Stylist,  Image consultant, sometimes modeling and with my Lives in IG “Talk About IT” Tuesday, and in TikTok “Sunday TikTok Talk” and soon with a book “ My Love Stories “.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is never easy to follow your dreams. The fashion and entertainment industries are very competitive and unfair. It is not always the best winners, many times the decision maker is your network, who you know or who likes you as a person. And many times they don’t even give an opportunity to know you or your work, if you are not part of “their circle of friends “ you are considered out.

I am determined to change this  when I am working, I am always trying to help as many talents as I can.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work is defined by a collaborative effort between me and my client. I need to be inspired by the project. I like to play with colors and textures and since I had the opportunity to live in different countries, and work with people with different cultures then me

Made me realize how much richer fashion can be when you see it from the perspective of other’s cultures. The moment I understood and accepted the power of being inspired and be an inspiration. #inspirebymcunier became my mantra at work.

This mean think outside of any box and bring something unexpected every time.
