Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Simeone.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a National Geographic certified educator, mom to little explorer and a creative focused on discovery, design and impact. I’m also the founder of Lele Art Lab, an arts-based environmental art program in South Florida. On a mission to reframe the language we use and the approach we take in catalyzing pro-ecological behavior. Centered on inclusion in the quest for a greener planet. Turning beaches into classrooms and marine debris into art. Using art as a language of exploration. I love all things creative – making, crafting and design. I’ve also called five different cities my home and speak Spanish, Italian and Portuguêse.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a creative person there are many directions you’re pulled into. You wear many hats: the doer, the maker and the independent artist. You think of the endless possibility of bringing to life the many doodles and projects you’ve got scribbled about. There’s the challenge of really settling on what’s your passion and how you can come up with innovative ways to bring it to life. Staying true to what you believe in and having a supportive community is everything. I’m fortunate to have the endless support of my family, friends, amazing educator community and simply good people I’ve found along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Despite the fact that 71% of the earth’s surface is ocean, only a small percentage of learners have experienced its wonders. Lele Art Lab wants to change that. We leverage the power of art to unify and celebrate a new generation of ocean ART-ivists. Our latest education initiative is Sea the Reef, working with underserved youth to experience marine science spaces and live the message of ocean conservation on the field as explorers and artists.
