Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Harvey.
Hi Victor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got into the spirits business in 2007 after successful careers as a rap star, professional sports agent, and hotelier. I saw the opportunity to create my own brand and have been in this space ever since. Recently I purchased Palm Beach Distillery where we now make not only the nationally distributed Victor George Vodka but also gin, rum, and a just-released bourbon named Fort Mose’.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a single parent raising two children, there is always struggles and challenges. However, the reward is unmeasurable. I now have one who recently graduated college and the other in his final year. Business-wise it is just constantly trying to stay competitive being a small company in a large company-dominated industry.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a distiller and brand owner of nationally distributed Victor George Vodka. This brand is available in 45 states across the U.S. We recently released our bourbon, Fort Mose’ which will also be nationally distributed. We are one of the only Black-owned sprits companies with national distribution and one of the largest in the world. The proudest moment was finishing that first bottle of bourbon. Fort Mose’ is a city 2 miles north of Saint Augustine, FL. In 1726, 38 slaves escaped the Carolinas and came to Florida. Here they joined with the Spanish and Indians to fight off their former masters. As a reward for their loyalty, in 1738, the governor of Florida declared Fort Mose’ the first town in the U.S. that Black people could live free. Now we have a bourbon named after it. We will be donating a portion of our profits to the Fort Mose’ Historical Society.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We were recently awarded 2.45 million dollars by the Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency to build the cities first Black-owned distillery on historic Sistrunk Blvd. This will be the first of it’s kind housing a distillery, restaurant, cigar bar, and rooftop patio lounge.
