Exploring Life & Business with Amber Maiani of Eventure HR

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Amber Maiani.

Amber Maiani

Hi Amber, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Buckle up, because this isn’t your average rags-to-riches tale. Picture this: a Floridian upbringing in the heart of an RV campground, Ft Myers Beach; where the sun was relentless, and fun was the only currency that mattered. I am Amber Maiani the vibrant force behind this rollercoaster ride of a life story. We didn’t have a lot of nice things growing up and we struggled a lot financially.

We were called many names, things like “trailer trash and white trash”- words that were meant to hurt me, were only fueling and motivating the beautiful fire that was about to ignite! Fast forward, that is exactly what those words did, and they couldn’t have been proved more wrong! My identity was never found in where I lived or what I have, it is all about my heart and my passion. We faced many challenges growing up; my father had lost his job and moved out of state when we were in Michigan.

My mom was working full time in a plant and also trying to take care of her sick mother and us girls. It particularly affected me when my mother needed to take time off to care for my grandmother and took FMLA.  At the end of her FMLA, she was terminated. This was a huge loss in all aspects of our lives at that moment. I was left feeling sad and angry about the situation. I felt that I had only one option and that was to step up and help in these hard times for our family. I worked as much as I could meanwhile attending High School.

After graduation, buckle up, I was full-time work and full-time college, all to help support my family and pay the bills. I had financial aid, worked hard on obtaining scholarships when I was in high school, and took out student loans. I had to work for everything I wanted and had, and very thankful for this. I may not have gone away to college like I had dreamed, but I did stay local to our hometown at the time in Michigan, and went to Baker College, then to Walsh College.

I started to go for accounting, then quickly decided that wasn’t for me. So, I switched to a Human Resources Degree with a minor in marketing and legal. I worked at some amazing places with my biggest mentor at BELFOR Property Restoration, Cari Breitinger, this is where I really had my breakthrough, and it paved my career.

She is currently the National Director of Payroll and Megan O’Gorman (previously held the position as National HR Director): these two ladies were severely pushing me to my limits (which I am thankful for today), and they could see the competitive fire within me and me striving to not be the best but to learn from the best.

I was stuck, I didn’t want to leave and go anywhere else but there was no available movement for me within the company. I parted ways and went to Proper Group International where I started my career as an HR Generalist (1st one to get hired at the company for this department) and reported to my favorite CFO Mark Rusch (I quickly learned to have a love/hate relationship with him and called him the “CF No”) as he would always tell me no every time I wanted to spend money in the Payroll and HR department to make improvements and technology advancements and not manual work.

And here we are today…. with EVENTURE HR. The early days of Venture HR, as we were known then, centered mainly around payroll and human resources. Our company has since evolved into a full-service boutique-style People Operations dedicated to serving our clients with unwavering commitment and innovative solutions. Now, as we transition to Eventure HR, we embrace this new name as a symbol of the adventures we’ve embarked on and the many more we have yet to explore.

As Eventure HR continues to grow, I knew I wanted to make a return to Florida, where my family, my inspiration, and my heart are. The partnerships with local chambers and businesses have been invaluable as we look to the chapter of our story. I am hopeful for our future, but I’m planning for our success.

Present day, current attitude:

Where I began to start my own company: This journey of establishing Venture HR, LLC (DBA Venture HR Pro) began in 2018 at 2:08 am EST, to be exact, while nursing my son, Ronin Bear Maiani. Half-sleeping in the glider, enjoying nurturing my son, I realized I wanted to continue to help people and expand my reach, not just within the employer I worked for. As I continued to dream about how I would do this, the bulb went off. “I need a new adventure…” I said to myself. I then pulled out my notepad with my flashlight on my phone, not to fully wake my son, and started to doodle.

It was in those quiet moments of inspiration that Venture HR was born. Our journey, which started as a simple idea in the middle of the night, has evolved into a company dedicated to serving our clients with unwavering commitment and innovative solutions. Now, as we transition to Eventure HR, we embrace this new name as a symbol of the adventures we’ve embarked on and the many more we have yet to explore. As my daughter, Serena, says “We got this, mom.”

The Journey from Venture HR to Eventure HR: Over the years, we have been on an incredible journey, guided by a vision to redefine HR Operations and Payroll Processing. This journey has been marked by unwavering commitment, innovation, and, most importantly, your trust and support.

Our evolution is not merely a change of name; it’s a reflection of our growth, resilience, and the dynamic nature of our industry. We have evolved into Eventure HR to better embody our mission and adapt to the ever-changing landscape of People Operations.

Why Eventure? Our new identity, Eventure, encapsulates the essence of our commitment to serving you. The name reflects our dedication to navigating the complexities of People Operations, Payroll Processing, Compliance, Recruiting, and much more, treating them not as static processes but as dynamic and ever-evolving journeys. Just as the term “eventure” suggests, we see every client engagement as a unique adventure, and our team is here to support you every step of the way.

What Remains Unchanged: I want to assure you that while our name and branding may change, our core values and commitment to our clients remain unwavering. You will continue to experience unparalleled customer service, access to knowledgeable experts, and our dedication to compliance and regulatory excellence. We are still the team you’ve come to rely on.

A Bright Future: Eventure HR is not just a rebrand; it’s a reflection of our promise to keep evolving, innovating, and providing the best possible support and guidance. With this change, we are better positioned to deliver even more innovative solutions tailored to your unique business needs.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth one, there were lots of personal life changes happening along the way. During the first year of 2018, I learned to create my own website, www.venturehrpro.com, through YouTube and trial and error with WordPress. I was thankful I had IT friends to help me through this with the complex items on a website (like the buttons you click). I didn’t have startup money and I was going off of the funds I had saved and what was in my 401k plan.

My first major was coming up with Venture HR, LLC which was where it began. I quickly learned I should have done more research than going to the law firm to start a company. There was www.venturehr.com which is in CA. There was also a PEO company called Vensure which many calls from unhappy employees and clients were always calling us and leaving bad reviews thinking we were the PEO company as the names sound very familiar when you speak them out loud.

When I opened the DBA as Venture HR Pro to separate ourselves and began our brand under this company. Well, that led to another company stating we had part of their company name in ours and wanted us to shut it down (HR Pro). I thankfully had the national trademark for Venture HR Pro.

I had to pull out my retirement funds to obtain new employees as we continued to grow in 2019. COVID year hit 2020 and we doubled in size due to all the requirements, clients realizing the barriers they had and obstacles they were faced with from a work from home. I am thankful during these times my best friend Melissa S and my sister Shelby K were by my side as we started to grow the company. Without these two right there jumping in and learning and growing who knows where the story would have gone?

2021 – doubled again, and I had to restructure how we operated as we hired external employees through word of mouth. I learned from my mentors around me in business and one of them always hired their managers first then we did all tasks and learned all roles before we brought in entry-level associates to grow from within.

As you know, we’re big fans of Eventure HR. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I started this company with one vision; providing services to clients without wasting time and money. As someone once wrote for an award we won: “Amber is the founder of EVenture HR – a woman-owned, family business established in 2018. She currently leads a team of 15 employees providing various businesses with a wide range of cost-saving solutions including human resource services, payroll administration, insurance, and recruiting.”

However, it doesn’t stop there with her clients. In addition to baked goods and gift cards, when Amber takes on a new account, she learns everything she can about their business. She develops a personal connection with the owner and staff, to better understand the culture, values, and needs within. She’ll even say “I enjoy listening to them vent”.

She does this with every customer, whether they’re in the manufacturing industry, restaurant business, or a family dentist’s office. By listening and understanding she’s able to connect one client’s problem, with another client who can offer a solution. Through her assiduous networking efforts, the multitude of services she provides continues to grow as she takes on new client accounts.

The qualities that make Amber such an exceptional woman, friend, mother, and volunteer, are the same qualities that drive the success of her business; her deep-rooted passion for helping others. Amber is a natural leader.” With deep knowledge of your industry and multifaceted expertise, EVENTURE brings solutions and strategy to all areas of your business – with innovation, efficiency, and your competitive edge at the forefront.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was curious, competitive, shy (yeah me..) I moved a lot from Florida to Michigan to cities within Michigan, to coming back to Florida flying by myself since I was 6 years old. I always wanted to prove people wrong, such as the perception of living in a manufactured home community – people have a tendency to use the word “trailer trash” Where you live and how you are brought up doesn’t give you the identity. It’s who you are from within as your Character.

My interests were in sports and physical activity and always the beach and anything that involved motors and water. Camping runs through me in the serene moments and the simplicity. Stepping outside and not living by rules was my teenage years (sorry Mom and Dad, lol). I very much like breaking stereotypes. Example: when I worked in a manufacturing plant as a Corporate HR Manager, it was NOT normal for the “Office snoods” to be out in the plant and interacting with the guys. I shook that up as well.

I would, in my business attire and heels, socialize and walk the plant. I got to learn a lot about the guys, their families, their struggles, their accomplishments in life, their pride, and their values. This made me continue to break the barrier. Being the only female in the conference room also proved that I could be heard, I was equally able to contribute to the meetings and just because I was a female, “she won’t last in here” was the fire I needed again to prove anyone and everyone wrong. I excelled in this arena.
