Daily Inspiration: Meet Makayla Michel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makayla Michel.

Hi Makayla, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My story about starting my real estate career came from God himself. After graduating high school in 202o, I started going to college and I continuously changed my major every 2 to 4 weeks. I was all over the place with my career choice because I genuinely didn’t know what I wanted to do, and that didn’t require me to work for anyone. My goal for my career was to help others and make lots of money, because who doesn’t want that?

At the time, I was working at an amazing law firm and just got promoted to a paralegal, but I had found myself not feeling content with the position I was in, working Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:30 pm. One night, I decided to pray to God to reveal a career that will allow me to work for myself, help others, and make lots of money. The next morning, the first thing on my mind was real estate.

I started watching videos and searched everything there was on the internet about being a real estate agent. Then one day in January of 2022, I decided to take the leap of faith and quit my job at the law firm to go to real estate school. I was scared, I didn’t know how I was going to pay my bills. I didn’t even have the money to go to real estate school yet.

But that same day I quit, a friend of mine that I had met serving at a restaurant texted me and asked me if I wanted to come work there again. And I immediately texted back and said yes. I started serving on weekends and doing hair on the week days to pay bills and save up money to go to real estate school. My boyfriend and I finally saved money for me to attend real estate. I went to real estate school for 4 weeks and passed my state exam on April 5th, 2022.

I signed on to a brokerage on April 8th, 2022, After a few deals under this brokerage, I decided to transfer to another brokerage to work under my mentor whom I met through a previous transaction in October of 2022. Today, I am working under Blue Realty with the highest-producing team in the office because of the guidance of my mentor.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh… The road has been far from smooth. I’ve encountered many obstacles along the way. In May of 2022, I decided to go full-time and quit doing hair and serving at the restaurant thinking I was going to be making money right away, closing deals left and right because it was the heat of the market. But the way God tested my faith was by not getting me any deals to see if I was in it for the long run. I went maybe 2-4 months. behind on all my bills.

That’s why the biggest struggle I’ve encountered was getting clients to work with me. Because I was so new and desperate to get a deal people could read it off of me. They were very hesitant to work with me, they read that I was a new agent so they felt they couldn’t trust me. So, I had to detach myself from the end goal and just try to go along the way as a person of knowledge they could come to for anything that regarded real estate rather than being the girl that seemed too hungry for the commission.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a real estate agent, that specializes in aiding first-time homebuyers and investors to achieve their real estate goals. I’ve guided many individuals toward homeownership and towards earning passive income for themselves through real estate. Because my career was God-given, I do this job with love and integrity.

My passion is to always help others, and this career allows me to do so since purchasing real estate is a very emotional process the first time around. For some, it’s to break generational curses and build wealth for those to come after them. It makes me proud that I am working my dream job as an answered prayer also I am very proud that every single one of my clients turns into a friend, no matter how old or how young.

What sets me apart from my competitors is my availability and aggressiveness. I work long and hard to fight for my clients to get them the home of their dreams, I am always available for them to come to for any and everything that is why they turn to a friend rather than just other clients because to me my clients aren’t just a dollar sign.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is actually moving between different states. As a kid, I hated moving around from state to state but as an adult I love it.

Moving around has allowed me to be in so many different surroundings where I can get along and understand people in different environments. It gave me the strength to adapt to my surrounding easily to get along with everyone. In school, I had no choice but to be able to get along and understand the kids I was around if I wanted to make friends.
