“The woman blossoms like a rose reaching her peak by her twenties and fading away after the age of twenty-five,” my grandmother taught me as a child. The whole youth I spent rushing, making mistakes and half-thought-out decisions to catch the time before my beauty would fade away. Like Cinderella was afraid of the midnight, I was afraid that once my clock hits 25 years old I would become old, unattractive and unloved. But in my late twenties early thirties, my modeling career instead of fading away exploded. In two years I was published on seven magazine covers including major international publications such as Maxim and FHM. I have discovered the magic of medical aesthetics such as Botox and facial fillers. And in my mid-thirties (almost ten years after my expected expiration date), I’ve looked the best I ever have. I wanted to help other women to reach their beauty potentials at any age; making women look and feel beautiful became my obsession. After years of surgical career, I’ve switched to medical aesthetics. The procedural skills that I have learned in my residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and years in the OR have helped me to master the most advanced injections and procedures of medical aesthetics quite naturally. But more than the technical skills, I realized that I have an eye for beauty.
Working with someone’s face is like creating a sculpture. You need to be precise, patient, efficient and you need to understand how every move you do will look from all angles and directions. I had spent years training with the top plastic surgeons and dermatologists to perfect that skill. But providing great results was not good enough for me. I wanted to give my clients a good experience. I have decided to open my own medical spa, where I will be able to offer the atmosphere, the customer service, the cutting edge products and treatments and the personable warm and caring approach to every client who walks through our doors. We started with a few basic procedures such as wrinkle reduction with Botox, lip augmentation, enhancement of the cheeks and rejuvenation with hyaluronic acid fillers. Slowly we expanded our treatments to full face and body rejuvenation. Hello Gorgeous Medical spa is now one of the best-reviewed spas in South Florida. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting your own business with zero business experience, zero financial support from anyone and in a relatively new medical field was a big risk to take. It took several years to put the spa on the map and to establish a solid reputation. But with every challenge came to experience and personal growth. The sales, marketing, management, and administration can all be learned. A good heart, honesty, and loyalty cannot be… and they are the key to the long-term success.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Being a female in a beauty industry is definitely an advantage. Most of my female (and male) clients would prefer to work with a female injector. In my field, I do not see a lot of barriers to becoming a specialist leading in the field.
