Conversations with the Inspiring Odalys Quevedo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Odalys Quevedo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started blogging in 2016. At the time, I hadn’t worked in four years (since I was pregnant), and my daughter had recently started daycare, so I decided to start blogging.

At first, the blog was my way to connect with people. After being a mom for three years, I realized that being a stay-at-home mom can be lonely, so I went in search of a community.

After about six months of blogging, I found it. I joined the South Florida Bloggers, and later the South Florida Mom Bloggers. I started making connections with people in the blogging community at their monthly meetups. I kept showing up month after month, and I must have made a good impression because about six months ago, I became the Social Media Manager for the South Florida Mom Bloggers.

At the beginning of the year, I had made my mind up to somehow make money blogging, and after attending a few meetups about how to monetize a blog, something in my brain just clicked.

I realized that I could make an income doing what I love – writing – and keep my blog going as a personal way of connecting with readers and potential clients.

As of four months ago, I have officially achieved my goal. With the writing and social media skills I acquired while working on my blog, and the direction I gained from integrating myself into the blogger community, I became a copywriter and social media consultant.

In the past few months, I’ve contributed posts to Miami Moms Blog and been approached by several brands for collaborations, podcasts for interviews, and Voyage Miami for this interview.

I’m so happy to be able to share my experience with others in hopes that I can help at least one person find some inspiration, motivation, or direction.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been easy at all. I’ve had to overcome mom guilt and organize my time in ways that I never had in the past.

My biggest struggle is finding the time to work, pursue my passions, and still be able to spend time with my family. Honestly, I’m still figuring out how to balance everything.

My biggest piece of advice to anyone just starting out in their entrepreneurial journey is: keep showing up.

If something isn’t working, try something else. Always keep learning, and never settle for anything less than what you deserve.

What do you deserve?

You deserve to be able to pursue your passions free of guilt and judgment, and if you’re lucky, your career will align perfectly with your passions.

So, never give up pursuing your goals, and always show up, because one day, you’ll arrive just where you want to be.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
As a copywriter, the name of the game is creating quality content for my clients. My greatest passion in copywriting is helping a client find the voice for their brand. I love learning about my client’s vision and what their business stands for, then helping them develop a language that suits them and their brand perfectly.

As a social media consultant, I know how to create an aesthetic and content that align with my clients’ brand. I love to share what I know about social media to help my clients be seen and heard. The nuances and constantly evolving science behind creating and growing a social media profile are what keep me engrossed and give me the drive to share everything I learn.

What I’m most proud of as a brand is that my clients feel the love, passion, compassion, and genuineness of the content I create. When I take on a job, I put my all into it, and I think it shows in the quality of the work I produce.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Always show up. And never give up. If something’s not working, try a different approach, but always show up, and never, ever give up.
