Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Wright
Kayla, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, I first came up with the idea after coloring hair a couple times. My stylist suggested to me that I should try and get into it the hair business. After doing my research and looking into a few things, I decided to start my own business selling hair extensions and offering coloring services. On January 25th, 2019 K Quinzel Couture was born. Later on, I decided to add other items (jewelry and clothing) to accomplish my long-term goal of becoming a one stop shop.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, it wasn’t. Two months after I launched my business officially, COVID came around. Of course, my business took a hit, and I was a bit discouraged because of it. My biggest struggle was getting consistency. Over time, I learned how to market better and later over the summer, I added the custom jewelry and that’s when the consistency I was trying to gain finally came around.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
K Quinzel Couture is a one stop shop offering hair extensions, custom jewelry and clothing. My goal is to add even more products such as handbags and heels by the beginning of 2021. I want every customer to be able to create a look from my business alone. I’m also working on clothing for men! I’m happy because even through the many obstacles thrown my way, I was still able to accomplish my goal of becoming a one stop shop.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes! The biggest lesson I learned was that as a business owner you have to be prepared for anything. COVID-19 had to be the most unexpected thing to happen to my business. I’m pretty sure everyone gets that feeling that you’re doing so good that nothing can go wrong, but you really have to be prepared. You really have to stay focused, motivated and not to get too discouraged because of things that can happen.
