Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Cabral.
Hi Jason, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, and I am first generation born in the United States. Both of my parents are from Portugal but moved here in their late teens/early 20s. I have been in construction for the last 20 years, and it runs through my blood. My dad and my grandfather were in construction, as well as many other family members. As a young child, I remember helping to clean up job sites and assisting my dad. At the age of 16, I started out painting for a company. I slowly transitioned into full remodels by the age of 22.
In 2012, I moved down to Fort Lauderdale, and shortly after I got a job as a project manager for a luxury construction company.
I decided to branch off on my own in 2019. I worked hard, and deep down I always knew I wanted to build my own company from the ground up. I have experienced every level, from cleaning up job sites to managing and running crews, and now running my company- JMC Contracting Group.
In 2020, I was motivated to get my license. I started school and dedicated long hours to studying, on top of running my business. I finally got my Building Contractor License in August 2021.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“A smooth sea has never made a skilled sailor.”
I do not think it is ever easy to start a company. Everyone faces challenges. When I decided to start JMC Contracting Group, I didn’t have the funds or capital to look “like a contractor.” I did not have a truck, logo, website, etc., but I knew I had to begin somewhere. I would show up to job sites in my personal vehicle. After my first full remodel was completed, I took the profit and purchased a work van. I got my first logo and website created and built up my tool collection. I lived in my friend’s enclosed garage with cheap rent so I could invest heavily back into my company.
After my first year in business, the pandemic hit. No one knew what the future looked like, and for a few months my business slowed down. I was extremely worried, not knowing if the jobs would ramp up. However, the construction industry skyrocketed due to people staying and working from home. I started to see more and more jobs come in and built a team together to offer quality work with reliable service.
School has never my forte, so when I started the courses for my builder’s license, it was extremely difficult for me to study. I took it day by day, and before I knew it, I passed all 3 of the contractors’ exams.
Today, we are dealing with new issues. Homeowners and contractors alike are all struggling with inflation and finding quality workers. Fortunately, I have a great team that has helped JMC Contracting Group to grow tremendously.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about JMC Contracting Group LLC?

My wife joined the company in December 2021. She is in Real Estate, and our dream is to build a development sector in the company. We would love to get more into new construction and building houses from the ground up. We are excited to see where the next couple of years takes us!
