Today we’d like to introduce you to Milli Fox.
Milli, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Junior Foxes ring slings was born out of necessity. When my son was just five months old, I realized that not all baby carriers are created equally. As a doula myself, I had plenty of experience with baby-wearing but it took becoming a mother to realize the depth of the impact baby-wearing could have on my life as a new parent.
Without any substantial help, I was often at home alone trying to stay on top of all the housework and baby-wearing quickly became a necessity. My son only wanted to nap on me, and I couldn’t afford to be trapped on the couch. I also needed a carrier that was super quick and easy to use, for those daunting witching hours in the evening where my son would sometimes scream inconsolably. The only solution was baby-wearing.
As I tried different baby carriers, I realized that a ring sling was the best suited to my needs. It seemed to be the most versatile, quick and easy to use, fit in my diaper bag, I could nurse in it, and it could double as a blanket or stroller cover. However, when I went to find myself a ring sling, the only one I could find was a thick dark grey sling at a local baby store. Not only was it totally blah, it just wasn’t the quality I wanted for me and my baby.
Then, one day, I was walking past a fabric store and saw a beautiful banana leaf printed linen and I thought to myself, why can’t I have a baby carrier made from that kind of fabric! So, I went in and bought it and the rest was history.
The response to the printed slings has been incredible. I set out on a mission to empower parents to take back their day, and a piece of their pre-baby selves. My slings are geared towards parent’s personal style and serve as a reminder that the person they were before they had a baby is still alive and well.
As the only printed slings available on the market, our aim is to bring more joy into the mundane tasks of the day-t0-day that can seem to overshadow the lives of new parents.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, starting this particular business hasn’t been a huge struggle and I think that’s because I let go of perfectionism. Done is better than perfect, and I truly believe that motto has been what has contributed in large part to the success that I have experienced thus far in the business.
In previous businesses I’ve started, I always spent way too much time making sure everything was set up perfectly before I started focusing on actually getting my offerings out into the world and making money.
This time, my mission was to start selling ASAP and then worry about making it prettier later. And that’s what I did. I slapped together my first website in a couple of days and I hit the ground running.
I’ve made so many improvements since I started, and I don’t plan on stopping because that’s the type of person I am.
My best advice is to let go of the fear and perfectionism because it’s ultimately just procrastination dressed up all fancy-like!
We’d love to hear more about Junior Foxes.
What set’s us apart is the fact that we focus on the parents’ style first. So many baby products are designed for the baby and leave out the parents’ personal design preferences. I’m really starting to see that change and I think it’s long overdue.
I am most proud of the feedback I get from moms who buy my slings. It’s their prize possession, they love how it makes them feel. It’s not just about how they look in it, but also about how it helps them to take their power back and get more done in a day.
That aspect of what I’m offering makes me feel so full and happy.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I think my parents taught me to be a free-thinker. I was never made to feel like I had to choose a certain path because I was a girl and I was always taught to question authority.
I was encouraged to achieve things for myself and figure things out on my own. That along with the fact that I am a fiercely independent and tenacious individual definitely played a huge role in the path I chose.
