Meet Pablo Cobo The Rockadictos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pablo Cobo The rockadictos, .

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born in San Cristobal Venezuela on July 2, 1985. I grew up in a family where my father played piano, and my mother liked to sing, but I did not know how to play any instrument, or I was not interested in playing any.

In 2006 I moved to the United States (Miami Beach, FL), everything changed for me, in all aspects.
A friend of mine gave me an old guitar that he had in his house to throw in the trash I took it home and repaired it as I could, soon after I met a guy who sang and played the guitar in a church and invited me to the church to learn to play the instrument.

Already in the church, I found all kinds of musicians. Trumpeters, guitarists, pianists, violinists, singers, percussionists, keyboardists, bassists, drummers, etc., was an unknown world and rich in knowledge.

Wherever I went, there was music of all kinds.

Shortly after playing the guitar for about a year I had many ideas in my head and a friend gave me a disc of Jimi Hendrix when I heard it was like a mental exploit that changed my way of seeing music and I realized that music is composed of feelings like fury, anger, hatred, and happiness, that was the answer to the question I had in my head for so long.

Little by little I started playing in restaurants with different musicians, but my idea was to make a rock band, in a bar I met a girl who introduced me to a drummer friend of hers. Shortly after we decided to make a band, we were only four at the beginning two guitars, one saxophonist and one drummer. It turned out that the apartment where we rehearsed was behind the house of Javier Arce (bassist/singer) one night he knocked on the door while we rehearsed and offered to be the bassist of the band “NACION SUR.”

Soon we were playing in bars around the area, and people started attending the shows but the band separated for personal reasons of each member.

A bit sad but eager to move forward. Javier called me and proposed to make another band with a drummer he knew. That band was called The Rockadictos I’ve played with The Rockadictos since 2008.

Please tell us about your art.
As a guitarist I always try to compose something that transmits my feeling at that moment, music is the expression of the soul, and I try to represent it with my melodies or guitar solos.

One of the things that I like at this stage of my life is that I have the freedom to write what I feel that is the ideal of each musician and I hope to stay that way for a long time.

Anything can inspire me to create a melody/solo/riff on the guitar, sometimes I am in the car, and I listen to melodies in the traffic that generate ideas. I believe that music is a language that we all have and we all understand. The music is in the air in the plants in the animals everywhere we just have to try to separate ourselves from the distractions of the day to day and pay more attention and listen to the orchestra that is out there.

I love being able to share through music and not compete.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
The challenge for artists nowadays is not to prostitute art. Music is now a FASHION; it has no harmony or body.

I see many young musicians with a lot of talent. I think that music will sooner or later return to the origins.

I think the biggest challenge is knowing that the industry is going a very different way than art.
