Meet Christine Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Wilson.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
At a young age, my love for art stemmed from my general curiosity with the world around me, and as I got older, it sort of became my only option. By that I mean it was the only place I found where it felt safe to lose myself. There’s a really unique juxtaposition that takes place in the creative process where the anxieties and soft sighs that attach themselves to our lives both serve a purpose but can also completely fall away. There’s enlightenment as well as freedom there. Whatever I’ve found in that place I try to share, and in our modern culture, I don’t think people need brand new ideas, just new ways to see the everyday things that come with the human condition. Maybe that’s the artist’s job after all, right?

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a multi-media artist. I started in illustration and transitioned into digital art as technology started progressing. I’m not entirely sure why I do this, but I like to take offensive topics and meet them with kind art. There’s a lot of misunderstanding, heartache, and overall sh*tty things being thrown at us at all times, I figure there’s got to be beauty in there as well, so I try to find it, and that’s what I want people to see. I love illustrating people and finding artistic ways to display words; my biggest inspiration are people and music- so I’m always trying to find ways to combine the two.

My biggest hope for anything I create is that it makes people stand still in the midst of their circumstances for a minute, or even just a second, and smile.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success is a tricky thing in art. I think it goes back to what I originally said in the process of losing yourself. I never start something with the hopes that it reaches a mass amount of people, just that it’s freeing to me and if in that process it touches even one person, it’s done its job.

Evolving is essential to the artist. Staying curious and constantly working on bettering your craft are characteristics every artist should strive to maintain.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can visit my stuff over at christinewilsondesign.com or on Instagram @stinewilson. I’m currently in the process of publishing my first book, which will feature illustration, design, and poetry, titled, “To Every You My Heart Has Held, With Love, Me” and support when it comes out would mean the world <3.
