Meet LUPA

Today we’d like to introduce you to LUPA.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started my career as a DJ more than three decades ago and have performed numerous parties and special events. I have been a radio station DJ for Transamerica FM in Brazil, and a music programmer for DMX, a pioneer music channel provider in the USA. I won the Brazilian International Press Awards for Best DJ In 2015 and was among the five finalists in 2017 and 2018. (www.pressawards.us).

I have been a resident DJ for the Betsy Hotel, Able & Baker, Paris 6, the Astor Hotel, O Asian Grill, Chocolate, and have Djed at several venues, such as FDR @ Delano Hotel, Nikki Beach, Space, Nautilus Hotel, Segafredo Brickell, Lowes Hotel, Shelbourne Hotel, Catalina Hotel, Level One, etc.

I come from the very first generation of global VJ’s (video-jockeys). I was one of the first ever to DJ live at an Indoor Cycling Class (formerly known as “Spinning”) in the USA, the first in Florida and Brazil, and the creator of the special classes “DJ RIDE” and “VJ RIDE” (featuring images). I am currently working on a new project: Yacht Rides featuring live DJ.

As an Events Producer/Musical Director, I developed several projects, such as the Miami Beach Luau in 2003 featuring Brazilian reggae band Cidade Negra; Brazilian rapper Gabriel, the Thinker at 2005’s Indy 300 at Homestead Miami Speedway; BRAJAH 1 at the prestigious Jackie Gleason Theater in 2006, featuring Brazilian pop/reggae artists and Jamaican icon Gary Pine, formerly from The Wailers, and the voice of “Love Generation;” BRAJAH 2 at the North Beach Bandshell in 2007 featuring Brazilian roots reggae band Tribo de Jah and Junior Marvin, former Bob Marley’s guitar player; and MIX SENSE feat. Diogo Nogueira, the son of legendary Brazilian singer João Nogueira, at Deauville Beach Resort in 2009.

I have been the official DJ/VJ for the Brazilian Film Festival of Miami for many years. In addition, I opened for several renowned Brazilian bands and artists such as Cidade Negra, Natiruts, Lulu Santos, Isabella Taviani, Simone & Simaria, and span at the warm-up party for the Alanis Morissette’s concert in Brasilia in 2009.

Well known for my fresh, new, and innovative concepts, I have made many appearances and performed at special events such as “Party Time featuring JES,” the singer for several top DJ/Producers, including Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren, and themed events like “Festa A Volta Aos Anos 80” (festa80.com.br), the biggest retro party in Brazil which draws over 5,000 people. I brought this brand to the USA five years ago as the official closing party for the Miami International Film Festival (backto80s.com). After over twenty-two successful years in Brasilia, four editions in Miami, one in Los Angeles, and four in Houston in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, the event was held in Miami Beach on Saturday, September 23rd, 2017 at the luxurious Delano Hotel South Beach, as the Official Closing Event for the 21st Brazilian Film Festival of Miami (delano80sparty.eventbrite.com).

Please tell us about your art.
I have a big passion for new media, great events, technology and for creating a wide variety of unique happenings. My love for music and my experience have provided me with the background required to create my own style. I have specialized in House Music, and my main styles are Deep, Tropical, Tech, Loungy, Sexy, Soulful, Vocal, Melodic, and Progressive House.

What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I believe that with the constant development of technology, the work of the artists is getting easier and more efficient. Current technology resources minimize stress and open up more room for creativity. Cities like Miami that value art and entertainment, and have plenty of natural beauties, offer a perfect environment for artistic expression. Government leaders should promote more public events and create opportunities for the emergence of new talent.
