Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Ghrayeb.
Omar, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Roaming the streets of Beirut as a child, I developed my passion for photography. When I was 13 years old, my father bought me my first film camera. I still remember vividly how excited I was; Little did I know that through that lens I will capture life. For many years now I have been taking pictures with a focus on landscapes, nature and street photography. Currently, I am based in Miami and have a full-time job in construction.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
There is nothing I enjoy more than a day out for shooting; I wake up, pack the camera bag and head out to explore new places and new scenes.
I’ve always believed that happiness is something to share. Through the lens of my camera, I try to capture beauty around us, moments you can frame and enjoy with others.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
Today, more than anytime before artists are capable of delivering strong messages through their photography. By sharing the stories from different parts of the world, you provide so much for others to learn. The power of an image is beyond measure. Show people hunger and poverty; they will answer your call. Show them war and violence; they will protest and stand stronger. Show them high mountains, and they will aspire to climb. Show them the beautiful things in life, and they will make the world more beautiful. It is every artist’s job these days to use this power to influence others in a positive way and to inspire the world to be a better place, a more beautiful place.
