Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Barraza.
Christian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am originally from California but have lived in Idaho, New Mexico, Texas and now have been living in Florida for the past 6 years. Growing up I was into skating, snowboarding, music (Played in a band) and always tried to find new ways to get creative. My partner Abel Delgado and I went to the same high school and he has played a huge role on a lot of my creative endeavors over the years. Roughly a year ago, I reached out to him and proposed the idea of working together. We went back and forth for a few months going over concepts, mission statement and the fact that we didn’t want to be just another “niche brand.” La Frontera Supply Co. was born, and our core mission really is simple. We are creating a platform designed to empower our people and provide a space for new creators and influencers to grow.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Luckily, we did some research because we had little to no funds to launch a clothing brand. We found a company called “Printful” and although they are pricey, they allowed us the runway to start up with extremely low overhead costs.
Another challenge is the fact that my partner Abel lives in Idaho and he is an avid entrepreneur so finding time to “sit down” can be difficult. Luckily, we both love what we do and believe so vividly in this mission that we make time to execute on our goals.
La Frontera Supply Co. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our brand is centered around our Mexican culture and we wanted to provide a glimpse into our rich past. Our goal is to have “Icon Drops” where at least once or twice a year, we do a drop that showcases an important figure in Mexican history. Our first drop was dedicated to Emiliano Zapata. (Currently working on our next one.)
Very soon, after we launched, we decided clothing wasn’t enough, so we created #TruchaThursdays where we do weekly write-ups showcasing Latin influencers and creators of all forms. A couple of months after that, we saw not only how much it was resonating with people but how much we enjoyed the opportunity of creating new connections and creating a platform rather than just a brand. So, we decided to take it a step further and create Keep Trucha which is our YouTube series that is essentially a brand off Trucha Thursdays.
We are always looking for new way to collaborate with Latin artists and creators in any way we can!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me personally is waking up everyday doing not only what I love but providing opportunities for the people around me. Eventually, I plan to scale and work up to provide opportunities for people across the world.
