Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Lanier.
Tiffany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey really began in 2009, when I had the idea to create a student organization on my college campus called Kauz4unity Coalition (spelled funky because “creative”). My mission was to help build and promote unity in diversity at Florida State.
This was the first time I felt charged to create something bigger than myself and interestingly enough I think it foreshadowed some of the work that I do today. I led student facilitations discussing everything from Sex to Racism. It was during this time that I realized my love for public speaking and facilitating change in others.
Upon graduation, I started working for an eco-startup in South Florida, where I experienced first-hand a paradigm shift that was revolutionizing businesses: the expansion of social enterprise and the evolution of digital marketing.
Although I started out as their admin assistant, I quickly put my millennial skills to use and became their Digital Media Whisperer. I worked to expand their reach from local to global and became fascinated with how social media was changing the game, not only for businesses but also for individuals.
In 2012, I took a leap of faith, quit my job and started freelancing for local businesses in South FL and helping them build their digital presence. By 2014, I decided I wanted to build a global community and launched my personal brand LiveWithTiffany.com. I was on a mission to inspire and coach others to use their gifts and redefine life on their terms by utilizing the internet and new media as the vehicle to get there. But a few short months after launching Live with Tiffany, I got pregnant and dealt with life-threatening complications that changed my life and work forever.
Surviving the complications, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, named Autumn Sky, in the Spring of 2015. With a new role as a mom, continuing to grow my business and moving across the country, I found myself battling with postpartum depression.
This big life transition made me realize I had a lot of inner and outer work to do to be a better a mom, a better entrepreneur and a more conscious leader and this gave birth to the idea of “Owning your Shift” in order to Live Purposefully and Lead consciously.
Fast forward to today, I’m a keynote Speaker, Facilitator, Clarity Strategist, Podcast host of A Modern Visionary and Founder of LPLC 360, a personal and conscious leadership development company. I’m on a mission to help leaders and everyday individuals re-discover who they are, what they stand for, and what matters so they can create a bigger ripple effect in their lives and the world around them.
I believe in a very simple yet potent motto “We have a responsibility to humanity and the planet to connect, grow, and become the best versions of ourselves.” – because that alone is world-changing.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not a smooth road.
Access to capital was a really big struggle starting out so I bootstrapped everything. I quit my job prematurely without much savings. So, if I could do it all over again, I would have kept my job and built my business on the side and used my checks as capital for growth. We all need support whether that is tools to get started, courses, training, coaches or consultants and having access to help and guidance right away will save you years of trying to figure it out.
Also, growing a business and becoming a leader isn’t all external. There is A LOT of inner work to be done especially for women. I like to say Entrepreneurship is like Therapy, it’ll bring up all your stuff. So, making sure you continue to develop a mindset for success and do the necessary inner work surrounding money, comparison, fear of failure and rejection are major keys to thriving.
Being a woman, who has a business and have (or will have kids) always presents it’s challenging as well. You’ll feel guilty about spending more time on your business and not enough time with your children and vice versa. The only way around it is to prioritize where you can, some days (some weeks) you may be in the grind of building and developing a project and that will come first and other times you know your family really needs you and you’ll have to shift your focus (this is where delegating really comes in handy!).
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Founder of LPLC 360 and A Modern Visionary story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m nicknamed the Queen of Clarity.
My job is to help leaders and entrepreneurs get clear on who they are, what they stand for, and how they want to show up for the way they live, lead, and work.
I do this primarily through public speaking, coaching, and digital resources.
One of my favorite programs that I offer is The Morning Shift, it’s a course and a talk that I give to help you create a morning practice that is unique to you, your vision, and how you want to grow. It’s my personal secret weapon to creating clarity, confidence, and conviction in who I am and the work I do. It’s the space I hold to be and become. I’m definitely an advocate for good practice, it can become the cornerstone for your growth in all areas of your life. It’s where you do #TheClarityWork
I’m also the host and founder of the podcast A Modern Visionary, where I amplify the voices of leaders who give a damn in the realms of leadership, entrepreneurship, and politics. My goal is to inspire and encourage the next generation of leaders to leave a positive legacy.
What sets me apart from others is I do everything from a 360 lens. I believe everything is interconnected and I use this awareness to challenge my audiences to live, lead, and work from the inside out.
