Meet Trailblazer Raquel Genae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Genae.

Raquel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I feel like I’ve always experienced signs of my purpose as a child. I always had something to say. I wanted to be heard and felt. I was overly passionate and as stubborn as they come. I challenged everything. I never stopped asking why, even to this day. Writing was the gateway drug to my creativity. I’ve tried to convince myself and let others convince me of a “better” and safer route…  but it never sticks. I can never fit, and I don’t think I’m meant to. My life has been the farthest thing from stable, but somehow it has all worked out so beautifully. Most of my childhood was spent in different countries, cities, and schools. Friends passed by, and I tried my best to keep it all together and fight the flow of change. I was so angry at my parents for moving me around so much, but when I look back, I can’t believe how blessed I was to experience so much so young. The tough lessons always hit me hard, but ultimately made me a more loving person. I opened my hands up to the world, and it reached back to me.

I only recently started to take myself seriously. Writing, fashion, and being a self-love advocate has always been inside of me. I just had to dig it up it from the pile of my own trauma and limiting beliefs. My drive has always been there, but my direction had me stumped. Sometimes, our minds race so fast and our hearts pump out of our chest thinking about all the things we want to accomplish, that we forget to take a deep breath and focus on what we are doing now. Now, I can say I trust where I’m going. I trust all that is.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s never been an easy path. My struggles came from the urgent need to heal. Each time I attached my sense of self to something, the universe found a way to shake me up. Fear, anxiety, and the heights of my expectations constantly rose and were purged out of me. Each situation that broke me… only gave me a new opportunity for life. A new way of living and loving. I came back to the world with a new set of eyes and a bigger heart. If I could give advice to any young woman who is just starting her journey, it would be to allow yourself to heal and peel off the layers of suffering. You cannot mask your pain. Don’t apologize for being wild at heart. You don’t need to worry about those who cannot inhabit your wavelength. You are meant to feel and explore. Taste as much as you can. Design every detail of your life. When you are in a state of abundance, and open your mind… endless possibilities flow your way. You are never missing out when you are discovering yourself. We all have this perfect idea of how our life is supposed to be… but most of the time… the universe has a better plan. So, let go and trust.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am an overall creative. My mission is to heal and transform through the power of art. It could be through writing, speaking, imagery, or styling. I want to create a new world of inclusion, empowerment, and acceptance. Art is freedom. Creating is freeing. We all have an inherent desire and natural ability to create. So, my goal is to bring us back to ourselves, to show you a mirror of the person you have always been. We have neglected ourselves for so long, and I can’t blame us because this behavior was taught. The truth was purposely hidden from us, but now we are here and we are committed to getting to the bottom of the system that has misled us. We aren’t accepting anything less. We are leading ourselves. The truth is, we are absolutely deserving. We are worthy. We are beauty. We are creation itself.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I believe in networking with intent. You can feel others’ intentions. You can feel when they are present. When you spend long hours falling in love with your craft, and you know why you create, you elevate to a frequency where you attract certain people in your life. What has worked best for me is staying loyal to what is meant for me. I don’t chase, I don’t want or need… I align.
