Today we’d like to introduce you to Genevieve Torok.
Genevieve, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m the owner and founder of Sarada Fitness Wear. I started my company two years ago in Canada with the goal to offer sexy athleisure wear to women of all ages. My mission is to provide not only an outfit but also the feeling of confidence and sexiness to whomever wears these beautiful and unique pieces.
I started my company just after returning from Brazil to Canada (my home country). I started it out of frustration as it shocked me that I couldn’t find any unique and stylish fitness wear in Canada. They all seemed to be the same with none of them being fun at all. So after a few months of thinking, I started my own company: Sarada Fitness Wear. At the time, I was still working full-time in the corporate world, and Sarada was simply a side hustle.
After a year into the company’s life, I decided that it was time to make a decision: do I focus full-time on my career in the corporate world, or on my own dreams with Sarada. I chose the latter and eight months later, I quit the company. During this time, I worked very hard to get the visa to the US. I believed that Toronto wasn’t the right place for my brand and so in March 2018 I moved to Miami and became a full-time entrepreneur!
It was the best yet the scariest step of my life. The constant stress and uncertainty are at times difficult to deal with but with each day I’m being pushed to become stronger and better. My passion to bring confidence to my Customers has so far carried me through all the difficulties. There is nothing better than when my Customers love their outfits and feel beautiful wearing them! Sarada is not just about clothing, but about building confidence and strength by expressing yourself through style and colors. There is something truly liberating in being confidently and daringly you!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NO!!! But a dream that hasn’t been tested can’t be trusted. So every challenge, every no, every defeat was just another opportunity to become better and more. There were a few times when I was broken and I needed all my strength and belief in myself and my dream to be able to stand up and try again! But those are the moments that truly defined and shaped me. I now know that I won’t give up and I will keep on moving forward. No matter what!
One of my biggest struggles was getting the visa. It was a long eight months process during which my business was declined once. Hearing no from someone who knew very little about my business and talked to me for about 7 minutes was crushing! I couldn’t eat, sleep and function for about three weeks. I didn’t know what to do. All I knew is that I can’t give up now since I have given up everything for my dream: I sold my condo, my car, my furniture, invested all my savings into it and was about to quit my job. I had nothing except my dream to be a full-time entrepreneur and grow my company!
I knew that no matter how hard it is I just had to keep going because there was really no other choice. So I went back to my business plan, changed a few things, invested more money into my business and tried it the second time. And this time, I got the visa for my business! That was the happiest day of my life! That piece of paper represented so much because everything went into it!
There were other challenges of course, but this was the one that has tested me the most.
Sarada Fitness Wear – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m the owner and founder of Sarada Fitness Wear. My background is business. I have been in sales and marketing in the corporate world before I started my company.
I’m also passionate about fitness. It’s not just my hobby but truly my lifestyle. I have been working out for most of my life and I consider myself an athlete.
My favorite industry in fitness is bodybuilding. I myself have also competed and still have a bodybuilder’s mindset in many parts of my lifestyle (eating, training). I have also worked in the largest supplements company in the world, Iovate Health Sciences (brands: Hydroxycut, Muscletech) as Sales Manager for Latin America. Being in the bodybuilding industry allowed me to meet a lot of fitness people, competitors, and women who just wanted to stay fit. Bodybuilding made me fell in love with fitness even more!
What’s unique about my brand is that everything I do is with passion! In everything I do, there is love in it. There is a true passion for and obsession with providing an amazing Customer experience. This happens through a combination of many things:
– Offering Style and Performance: the products are not only stylish and sexy but also have the fabric technology! Thanks to this, Sarada products will last for 10-15 years!
– Offering Private In-Home Appointments: anytime anywhere! Our priority is to make the Customer feel comfortable! If it’s in Her home, or in Her hotel suite, we’ll bring a whole portfolio of products along with a style consultant that will allow Her and Her Friends to find the right outfit! In case She desires, we can also bring other service providers, such as trainers and beauty services.
– Confidence and Self-Love: our message is confidence and self-love. The hardest thing to be in today’s world is yourself! We want our Customers to dare to be just that by expressing themselves through our pieces. Through vibrant colors, through beautiful fabrics, through flattering styles.
Tell us about your favorite and least favorites things about our city.
I love Miami because of its endless beauty: the beautiful blue skies, the ever-changing clouds, and the sound of the ocean! Every time I feel sad or anxious, I take a second to look around and I see beauty. It always makes me realize that I live in paradise. I’m grateful every day to be here!
What I don’t like in this city: lack of proper recycling. The terrible and dangerous driving of many people.
