Meet Carole Jury

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carole Jury.

Carole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I arrived in US with my family four years ago. When we decided to move, I was in charge of the communication of a company in the chemical industry in Lyon (France). I saw the opportunity to turn my passion for art and interior design into a new professional adventure. I had never dared to take that step before. It was an incredible project and especially new challenges in perspective!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
What I liked about my arrival in the United States is the freedom to reinvent oneself professionally without ever having to justify oneself on one’s personal and professional career. Here, people change or evolve their career as they wish. There are no or few barriers to entrepreneurship, only recognition of “talent” or “performance” is important. Of course, this implies that you have to work hard.

Like all French, I think, what I like the least or miss the most in expatriation are close friends especially for the simplicity of relationships.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I like to play with the textures, the shades of color and the brightness. Photography is another of my passion. Also, the majority of my paintings are inspired by my photos, which give me a guide to research colors, tones, textures and reliefs. Oil painting lends itself naturally to plasticity and superposition. It is for this main reason that I like working with this medium.

I use all kind of tools like knives, spoons, brushes and whatever I have in my studio. I like integrating new materials like fabrics, metal…It’s a toy building set!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Be part of Aqua Art Miami this year and Scope last year during the Basel week has been one of my proudest moment.
