Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I realized I wanted to be a DJ when I attended a music festival and noticed there was only one female DJ on the roster the entire day. I was so confused why the DJ scene was primarily male-dominated. I understood my passion for music and therefore I took the next step by enrolling into the Scratch Academy for their intensive program. That’s where I learned how to DJ. It was no easy feat but I kept practicing and eventually, it clicked.
For any young women who want to DJ, do it. If you’re passionate about music, do it. If you love entertaining a room full of people, do it. If anyone says you’re crazy, that’s not a job or doubts you… DO IT.
You have nothing to lose and ultimately work doesn’t feel like work when you’re always having fun.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
There have been numerous clubs/lounges that have turned me down simply because I am a female, and they think I’m just trying to sell my looks.
FALSE – if they gave me a chance, and actually listened to my music or attended a live set, they would understand I’m no joke. But I’m okay with that- it just makes me want to fight harder, proving them wrong in the end.
