Today we’d like to introduce you to Martha Ramirez.
Martha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my obsession with the camera in high school as the yearbook photographer. I continued shooting through college and minored in photography. A decade after graduating from the Communication’s school at the University of Miami, I opened a small studio on one of Miami’s busiest roads. I quickly overgrew the small space and just 8 months later, we doubled the space and staff. Fast forward 16 years later we are fully staffed with managers, administrators and 3 additional photographers and Unique Design Studios is one of the largest and most successful (non- franchised) studios in Florida.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Hiring creative individuals has been the toughest part of this process. Unique Design Studios is not the typical “pose and shoot” style of studio and finding photographers with our same vision has been difficult.
Please tell us about Unique Design Studios.
Unique Design Studios is best known for photographing Pro Athlete Weddings, but we also photograph all families from maternity, newborns and through their growing stages. We specialize in creating a unique experience with an approach that allows each client to feel comfortable and catered to. Sessions are customized to avoid duplication of looks, making each session, “Unique”.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to do it all over again, I would be more careful about who I hire. Many ex-employees have taken our business plan and ideas and have become our competitors.
