Meet Dr. Anelisse Marino of Marino Family Dental in Lauderhill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Anelisse Marino.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Marino. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am the proud owner and general dentist of Marino Family Dental. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Florida in 2009. After a gruesome application and interview process, I was fortunate to have been one of the 80 selected out of a pool of 1,600 applicants to attend the renowned University of Florida College of Dentistry program where I earned my Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2013.

The beginning of my story starts with the reason that fueled my desire to pursue a career in dentistry. It comes full circle today since it is the same reason that continues to drive my passion daily in my Marino Family Dental mission… Family. I am a first generation Cuban American and my childhood is one marked with memories of frequent family dentist visits for all the corrective dental work needed to treat problems caused by poor dental care experiences while my family lived in Cuba. In Cuba, dysfunctional economics and politics negatively impact every inch of the health care delivery system. Observing all of this first hand, these experiences helped shape and ultimately guide me down the path of becoming a general dentist. I wanted for my professional legacy to be one of service where I would be able to provide my community with the kind of quality dental care that my family in Cuba did not have the opportunity to have in a less fortunate country like Cuba.

Prior to opening my own practice, I had been practicing as an associate general dentist in the East Fort Lauderdale area for the past five (almost six years). It was in those years that my eyes were opened to the harsh reality of what working in the dental field today had become: a kind of “dental mill.” I just knew that if I ever had the chance, I would do things differently and I would do better for my patients! Then, the opportunity presented itself in the most unexpected time in my life. I was just settling into the changes associated with being a new mother, but I went for it and never looked back. This is when Marino Family Dental was born!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Walking the tightrope of a balanced life between both working mother and doctor can be a struggle. Prior to being a practice owner, I was lead to believe by many that I couldn’t have it all. I suffered too many countless moments of guilt every time staff had to rearrange patients due to my having to unexpectedly leave work and pick up my ill child from daycare. Making the big life-changing decision to open my very own dental practice allowed me to be able to steer my life in a direction that made having it all 100% possible. Marino Family Dental meant more than the flexibility of being able to set my own hours, it also opened the doors to fix what it was that I saw wrong in the field of dentistry today. I was finally able to give my patients a dental care experience that brought the focus back on customer service and being “patient-centric.” Marino Family Dental treats people, not teeth! I am very proud to be the owner of a medical facility that stands true to what medical practice should really be about… serving and caring for people. But, I’m even more proud of the example I am able to set for my children wearing my mom cape handling crazy morning rushes and being present for the extracurriculars, homework help, and the sick day struggles all while wearing my white coat with pride and being the best doctor for my patients.

Marino Family Dental – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I chose the name “Marino Family Dental” to place emphasis on creating a dental practice in which patients feel like they are part of our family. Marino Family Dental is more than just a name, it is a dental practice that strives for its patients to achieve the smiles that reflect the beauty held on the inside; enhancing patient self-esteem and confidence through comfortable, exceptional quality dental care. Marino Family Dental is a dental practice that also strives to overcome the anxiety and fear that stigmatizes going to the dentist. Our office does this by providing patients with a dental care experience that sets us apart from the rest.
