Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Wolfe.
Kelly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I first stepped foot in a gym when I was 17 years old. I had developed an eating disorder the last year of high school when I wasn’t allowed to play sports anymore because I was only enrolled half time.
My boyfriend at the time as a bodybuilder and wanted me to start going to the gym with him. Fast forward 2 years later and the gym had gotten me out of anorexia, provided me with a job as a personal trainer, and completely changed the look and feel of my body. I haven’t wanted more than a week off of working out since the day I started.
I went to college in Missouri and majored in Biology and Chemistry because those subjects were naturally easy for me to learn. I stayed an extra 2 years to get a masters degree doing a research project that involved the hormone leptin with fat metabolism and exercise. I knew all along that fitness and personal training were my passions, and what I was learning in college just seemed to make me a better equipped trainer for my clients. I really had no intentions on doing a PhD or working in a lab. For me life was all about feeling healthy, learning everything possible about nutrition and exercise and changing people’s lives with motivation and education as a trainer.
I moved to Miami when I turned 30 for a change of pace. I wanted sunshine, ocean and a health-conscious environment to grow my business in. I have been a personal trainer in many types of environments including personal training studios, client’s homes, outdoor locations, internet training, you name it. I later became a registered nurse so I could help clients with medical conditions and to further network with medical professionals in the community to help their patients after physical therapy or discharge.
Currently I work with clients online, in person on a private basis, or as a small group. Everybody’s workouts are customized around their health/medical history, lifestyle, goals and likes or dislikes.
Fitness is about small changes in lifestyle and habits over time. It doesn’t happen quick and it’s not easy. My job is to find the right combination of nutrition, workout and habit developments that get my clients the results they want and a lifestyle they enjoy. I guarantee my clients results and I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life.
I have added online fitness training over the last 5 years to my scope of services. This has allowed me to work with clients all over the globe. With numerous outlets for communication like Skype, text, messaging apps, etc this approach is highly effective for people needing a customized program and daily accountability with weekly check-in appointments.
