Meet Angela Pinto of Pinto’s Farm in Redland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Pinto.

Angela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2011 we were presented with the opportunity to purchase land in Miami’s Redland. We knew this would be the perfect opportunity to start our family’s dream business. Our mission was clear from the beginning we were to set up a business to cater to children, families and the entire community. Allowing them to enjoy fun-filled activities in nature.

We believe that in today’s “indoors” society the farm is a gateway to reconnecting with the planet. It’s not only beneficial to our physical body but our mental health.

The entire family has been dedicated for the last five years in serving with much love the community with a beautiful venue for hosting private events and weekend at the farms with many outdoor activities. In addition, Pinto’s farm has grown rapidly and gained popularity with our three large public events, Easter at the Farm, Pumpkin Patch at the Farm and Winterland at the Farm.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any new business, the learning curve can be expensive and many mistakes can be made while growing. We’ve been able to learn from them and we pride our selves on every year making our events better. Some of the obstacles are related to gaining permits from the city as well many of the projects require large amounts of investments and funding sources could be challenging sometime. In addition, we were hit very bad last year bu Hurricane Irma and it took a lot of efforts to rebuild. We were close for a month and it was very costly. Fortunately, the farm came out looking better since we took the opportunity to do several upgrades

Pinto’s Farm – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are in the Agritourism business. This is a growing industry in the US as the indoor society grows and the need to scape and reconnect with nature grows. This has also been a great solution for many farms looking for alternative sources of revenues that can provide a more steady source of income and mitigate a little the high fluctuations of revenues that come with agriculture. At Pinto’s farm, we offer pony rides, a couple of race tracks for pedal kartz, hay ride, petting zoo, bounce pad and pedal boats in a beautiful lake surrounding a private island in the farm. We have hosted many memorable private events celebrating many children birthday parties. Pinto’s farm has rapidly grown in popularity with our three theme events, Easter at the Farm, Winterland at the farm and our famous Pumpkin Patch where an estimated 30,000 people visit every year.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
This has been a steep learning curve and with this many proud moments have come. Five years ago we started our first pumpkin patch and about 4,000 people came to the farm during the month of October. We were not ready for this volume and needed to adapt very quickly. We were able to service all clients but it was extremely stressful and clearly visible that we were running above capacity. Forward five years and we can service 4,000 in one day with a better service that 4,000 in a month five years ago. This is one example of how much we’ve learned and grown. What makes us proud is that we’ve done this a family. Pinto’s farm is a family own business where around 25 members of the family work, including the more enthusiast, our youngest son who is now six.
