Meet Ivan Brun, Photographer in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivan Brun.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Medellin, Colombia. I moved to the US when I was 14 years old. I’ve always been into art all my life; I remember my parents were the first ones to find out. They always liked it, its something I’ll be thankful for my whole life because I know there are artists out there that can’t say the same and that gave my character a new shape. When I was 11, I peaked a massive interest on digital arts, after being a good four or five years doing painting I caught myself paying more attention to the examples I was to paint than my actual finished product. So I gave it a try, I bought myself a Sony camera when I was 11! well my parents did lol loved it and it was something that grew with me, like a sleeping talent I didn’t know I had. Years past by and I focused on different things like school and my family my friends, church… etc once in US I finally saved up to buy my first gear, I was 16! and my summer job had reached its goal and it was then when I joined the Canon Team. Since then life has been a beautiful journey of which I have every moment photographed. To me, its a gift, being able to capture what I see and make it a memory I can show my family in future generations, it’s amazing you know!

After a couple years living in US my family and I decided to move to Miami, FL and it was there where I took my art serious, at my senior year I was doing high activism for the county and I was participating in all state competition I was getting engaged in art scholarships and I was being a motivation for my fellow mates that wanted to adventure inside the world of Art but didn’t have the luck I had, I was helping my class to become more and more artsy, we competed in so many programs, we were getting published we were having a lot of fun, I will forever be thankful I moved around that time of my life, as high school was ending though I knew I needed to get higher goals, and I adventured myself in the Fashion industry, I started reaching out to model agencies, to brands, to Make up artist and I was doing collaborations and paid work all the time, it has truly been a journey and I feel like I could talk for days about it, I’ve met great people and I continue to do so every day, most importantly I continue doing art and I keep chasing fashion photography, Miami has been a great place and I’m so thankful for everything I’m getting myself into, gratitude towards everyone that has been part of it and very thankful for Voyage Team to make me part of this sweet labor they do with all of us “hidden” gems.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think one of the biggest struggles is the consistency in clientele, but it makes it fun, you know like a challenge, sometimes it gets very difficult but I’m very appreciative of people that always appreciate good art!

Ivan Brun – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a photographer; I specialize in all the beauty and fashion side of digital photography, I’m proud to make things around me beautiful fashion industry is a very heavy environment for everyone, you are always moving fast trying to catch the newest trends and to photograph them before its already an old one! I always catch myself reaching out to new brands everyday, new artists, new models! Its a continue and nonstopping industry, I feel very proud of the fact I never give up, I’ve been doing this for a couple of years now and its a consistent growing experience.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me success is not feeling like you’re fulfilling an obligation, to me, success feels like you’re giving the community a seal that will make you remarkable. Its all beyond money, money doesn’t satisfy the feeling of pride you get when you finish a project you’ve been working for! in this industry artists are all so different I feel markers are looking for original content, for culture set on a photograph.
