Meet Hunter Cambon of U See It College Tours

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Cambon.

Hunter, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
U See It College Tours started as a conversation around a dinner table and began gathering speed soon thereafter. I started mapping out our great state of Florida and which universities are most sought after. After creating a little itinerary, my wife and I set out on a mini road trip to tour most of the Florida universities. We gathered information, made contacts, and recorded everything we liked and didn’t like about the path we took around the state. I also realized how many students need help editing their college essays and resumes; this became a component of our company.

My wife manages her own marketing firm which translated into her generously spending time working on building me a website, social media presence, and marketing calendar, and that was the beginning.

Now, we happily provide 3-day tours covering five universities around the state.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been challenges along the way. Aside from running U See It, I’m a full-time high school English teacher. This created a struggle in terms of time, making for some late nights and many working weekends. There was also the challenge, as any small business faces at first, of getting my company name in front of potential clients. We thrived on word-of-mouth, and our first tour was excellent but very small. Word spread and our second tour was a bit larger. This trend has continued enabling us to fill our buses and provide great tours, full of energy and excitement.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with U See It College Tours – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
U See It College tours provides a 3-day college tour of 5 Florida universities. We tour (in order of appearance): Florida Gulf Coast University, University of South Florida, Florida State University, University of Florida, and University of Central Florida. In addition to these tours, we provide College Essay Application Guides, College Resume Guides, and one-on-one editing of these items.

What sets us apart from others is that U See It does not take our clients on the university’s official tour. We have a team of interns (current university students) at each of the universities that create high-interest tours of their own. These tours include both the traditional sights and information and the information that our interns know high school students want to know. This also means our interns are not selling or pitching the school to our clients. They give them a true run-down of what to expect their first year of college, whether or not the university’s meal plans are worth the money, which on-campus gym is the best, and where they can find the best nightlife or social activities. They also give them ideas about where to live on campus, what classes to take, and how to arrange the best schedule. Our interns usually dine with our clients to provide an excellent Q & A session.

We also have a strict student-only policy. This means that students will be traveling and touring without their parents. While we know parent opinion is important and helpful, we’ve learned that having a client tour on his or her own or with a group of friends allows them to ingest and digest what it will really be like to be living on their own on each campus. We provide tons of information for each client to bring home and review with their parents as they make this big decision.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Fort Lauderdale. I was born here and chose to bring my talents back home after graduating from UCF. It has an excellent network of people that want the best for one another, its natural beauty and social atmosphere are impossible to beat, and every time I travel elsewhere, I’m so excited to come home.

My only complaint, and it’s not so much a complaint than fear, is that our wonderful city will grow too quickly and be overrun with unoccupied condos, apartments, and hotels.
