Meet Jessica Masi of Masi Events in Brickell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Masi.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Miami and grew up in Palmetto Bay where I reside today with my family. In college I decided I wanted to go into the event industry and majored with a focus on Special Events from Florida State University. I quickly learned that event planning could not be taught in text books but rather through experience so I got a part time job at a catering company to get first hand event experience while at university. My last semester was an internship that I decided to take in NYC at a top event planning firm.

Even though my internship was an unpaid position for college credit, I needed to view this as a 3 month long job interview process. Sure enough at the end of my internship I became the first intern to be bought on as a full time employee. I gained so much experience working in NYC from planning corporate, non-profit events to top luxury social events. After three and half years in New York I decided, it was time to go to my home roots and convinced my husband during a blizzard Miami was where we needed to be. I established our company and decided to focus on wedding planning. A year after our move, my husband Michael joined the company full time and we haven’t looked back ever since.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part our process has been a smooth road. I started with small, very manageable events because I knew that in this industry reputation is everything. We now produce weddings for luxury clients coming from all over the world to have their wedding in Miami. We also sometimes travel with our clients to other destinations, including Italy, the Bahamas and other parts of the country.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Masi Events story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in wedding planning and have a strong sense of logistics when it comes to planning. We are known for our very detailed timeline, and our calm zen-like approach when it comes to planning and coordinating. There are not very many husband and wife planning companies. We are most proud of our responsiveness and availability to our clients.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe in hard work, being persistent yet humble and grateful. I believe you attract what you put out in the universe so I don’t really attribute our success to luck but rather dedication and perseverance which creates your own luck.
