Conversations with the Inspiring Cindy Aparbal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Aparbal.

Cindy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been living in the Miami Area since I was seven. My family and I moved here from NY and both of my parents are from Guyana in South America, I am the eldest of three sisters. I began my blog in 2012 while in school at FIU majoring in Psychology and running my father’s Frameless Shower Doors business. I love to shop with my friends and sisters than, of course, come up with ways to style them. I also had a love for writing since I was a little girl and decided to put to the two together and began sharing online. That blossomed into me sharing more about my travels, places that I ate, and when I became a mom it also was a platform where I could share some of how I parent and adventures we go on. I did take a break once my son was born, then my daughter writing here and there although I didn’t share much of that period, I think I can always revisit those times on the blog in the future, as I begin to share more of myself creatively online. Since becoming a mom, life did change for me and during this period I have gone through changes where I have learned new things about myself. I’ve had to work through a dark period in my life with the loss of a baby before my daugther was born. All stories I have not shared yet but want to on my blog and hopefully, use those experiences to help empower and inspire other women. Stay at home moms, working moms, single women, younger and older women if I can somehow share who I am by overcoming my own obstacbles and be creative while doing then this is why I started this blog.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No journey is ever easy and I know because I have never taken the traditional route to any endeavor. I have doubted myself, I have lost my confidence, lost my inspiration, cried, and get upset through it all. But I have had a wonderful supporter, my husband, he believes in me when I do not and always finds the words to make me feel better and to keep going. My children are now part of my drive to put more of myself into the platform. I have also never been afraid to seek help especially when I know I cannot do it on my own any longer. And I mean mental health talk to a therapist or friend because that is so beneficial as a person. I had both I really good friend who I confided in when I was at my darkest moment and my therapist. I also did the things I loved, yoga, walking, reading, and spending time with people that uplifted me. I also removed myself from negative situations and people. If I were to give advice to someone younger than me don’t be your own barrier you have to be your own cheerleader even when you feel like no one is looking.

What should we know about CincityStyleEdition? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My first job is being a mother so essentially, I write about parenting my children and what tips, tricks, advice or items we love to use in our day to day lives. With a background in psychology, I like to learn about humans and through what I do I meet new people, go to new places, and connect with individuals. I also love fashion and discovering ways to style my very petite frame so I share my personal styling tips that work for me because I am no professional stylist. Since there was a period where I took a break from blogging, I am presently in the process of redeveloping the brand and have a goal to incorporate more style, travel, parenting, food, and many ideas that I have for a children’s book that I came up long before I had my kids but haven’t implemented yet.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I love to read but it can be hard to actually sit and read so I use audible to listen to all my reading material.

Books: Girl Wash Your Face, No-Drama Discipline, Big Magic, Reality Unveiled are all books that I have used to find inspiration.

Planoly is an app I use to schedule my post and I love bloglovin platform because I can read all my favorite blogs in one place.
