Today we’d like to introduce you to Hooten Photography.
Melba, Scott, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
We are husband and wife Wedding and Portrait photographers based in South Florida.
So, who are we? Melba has a degree in Clinical Psychology with a specific interest in memory-disorders and the aging process. Scott has a background in Computer Science and has always been a Technologist at heart.
We’ve always been drawn to Photography. Even while in College pursuing our first passion, we were enrolled in several Photography courses starting with Film Photography.
It wasn’t until 2 friends of ours asked us if we would photograph their wedding, almost 11-years ago, that everything changed. Their wedding and that experience made us fall in love with photography in a very special way.
Since then, our business grew strictly from word-of-mouth and has been the source of immense joy in our lives.
We have seen and captured some of the happiest moments in a person’s life. Whether it’s been 2 people falling in love and starting a family or a mother experiencing life inside her or a High School Senior getting ready to start a whole new chapter in their lives, we have captured the best of them in that moment.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
As Photographers, we are Visual Storytellers.
Our photography style has been defined as modern, vibrant and timeless.
Our goal with every client we photograph is to really get to know them before our session. We want their images to be a true reflection of their personality and to capture what is truly most important to them.
Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
In general, we think it’s gotten easier for artists to showcase their art and connect with others. There are so many platforms in which an artist can now display their work and find genuine ways to connect with peers, fans and potential clients.
We strongly believe in community over competition.
We all need to do our part to support local artists, as well as small business owners so that together we can rise and succeed.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
