Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Atomik.
Adam, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started painting graffiti in elementary school, early nineties. Then in 1996 I mastered control of the spray can and have been painting ever since. In 2002 I graduated from art school with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. In 2008 I transitioned from painting graffiti letters to a smiling orange, in 2010 I was officially submerged in painting the orange character. In 2013 I began to make art and prints to sell, exhibit and trade.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I paint a smiling orange character repeatedly. The character was inspired from Obie of the Miami Orange Bowl. In 2008 when the demolition of the Miami Orange Bowl was complete I started to paint and make stickers of the orange character. The Orange Bowl committee sent me a cease and desist because I was using their logo with slight modifications. I stopped using their design and ran with my own rendition. My message is to have fun and smile, don’t take everything so seriously. My artwork in the streets is mostly painted without permission.
How can artists connect with other artists?
I recommend traveling the world and meeting new artists. It’s refreshing and provides great inspiration.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can see my work on Instagram through the handle @atomiko. I have a website: www.adamatomik.com where my online store is, if you’d like to purchase something from me that is the best avenue.
