Meet Courtney Campbell of Campbell Creative in Delray Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Campbell.

Courtney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Campbell Creative started 8 years ago in San Francisco in an 850 sq. foot apartment and today we are a full service branding + positioning agency working from coast to coast. To be fair, it wasn’t always my intention for this to become a company. I often times joke that my original “business plan” was simply “Don’t be homeless”. With that being said, let me back up a bit to tell you how we got from then to now.

I relocated to San Francisco with the plan to freelance until I found a permanent place to land as a creative director in one of the countless agencies in the Bay Area. However, as often times is the case, life didn’t exactly go as planned. The market took a bit of a dive and I found myself with an inbox full of “sorry we just filled that position” and “sorry we just eliminated that position” emails.

From that pile, a company was born.

It didn’t take long to realize that while I couldn’t seem to get hired by an agency, I was having no problem getting hired by clients all around the Bay Area. From that day forward, I stopped looking to put myself inside an agency and instead started building one.

From one referral to another, I built a reputation at first in San Francisco and then across the country with all of our clients as truly standing behind what we promised: We are a true partner. We formed lasting relationships with each of our clients and still work with most of them today While they may not all be with the companies we first met them in, our relationships have remained.

It’s from this focus on relationships that one of our main philosophies was born “If we don’t want to have coffee or cocktails together, we probably aren’t a good fit.” To us – clients are more than contracts. They are relationships and we want to enjoy the time we spend working together. For us, its part of what makes our creative so good – we actually KNOW you.

I truly believe it is our focus on understanding our clients combined with our passion for creating winning creative that positively impacts their business that has allowed us to continue to grow year after year.

Today, you will find us under a giant Banyan tree in Delray Beach where we are introducing a little bit of the Bay Area to this artsy beach town.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had spent my career working my way up in the traditional agency world. I had a full understanding of that side of the business but the “running a business” side of things I had never even considered. As I juggled the hats of generating the creative, marketing new clients, and running a business I definitely stumbled along the way.

I learned what I was truly good at, where my passion lied and I built a team to lean on for the rest. For me, that first and foremost meant getting myself out of the accounting department!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Campbell Creative – what should we know?
We are a branding + positioning agency that prides ourselves in passionate, real work and lasting relationships. We meet our clients where they are, regardless of size, budget or need. That’s what keeps our work fun, our ideas fresh, and our creative on point. We go beyond traditional media. We forget about jargon. We break the rules. We find all of the ways that a client’s brand will make people TALK. And then we get to work.

I think one of the things that sets us apart the most is that when choosing to partner with a client, there isn’t a specific industry or client size that we look for. Instead, it is about finding likeminded people. People that have a vision and passion for their brand and want to partner with us to help bring that vision to life.

The other thing that I believe truly sets us apart is HOW we see our clients. We look at all aspects of a brand and the experience a consumer has with it and then dive in to bring to life uniquely branded experiences at every touch point from the logo to the brand voice to the digital presence to their built space. We challenge each of our clients to provide their audience with cohesive branded solution and we work together to make that possible.

I am most proud of the reputation our company has both externally and internally. We have a company culture that is hard to find and one that I pride myself in maintaining. Just ask anyone who has worked with us, we are the real deal and stand behind what we say. We over deliver and out shine expectations on a daily basis and that is all because of the culture we have inside our walls.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Relationships is hands down the most important ingredient in the success of our company today.
