Meet Maggie Macaulay of Whole Hearted Parenting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Macaulay.

Maggie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My daughter’s clear preference for the word “no” as a toddler inspired me to more deeply explore children’s behavior and development. I wanted to parent from a new, mindful place that was more responsive and connecting. After attending a parenting course and experiencing the benefits in our family, I became a certified parenting educator. I created Whole Hearted Parenting in 2000 to share what I had learned with other parents so that they could experience greater peace and cooperation at home. Because I believe that the peace of the world ripples out from the peace that we experience at home, I became a trainer for parenting educators and then a certified coach and course facilitator through Your Infinite Life Training and Coaching Company. I also serve as the executive director of The Peaceful Project, working with young people to experience the often unexpected power of peace in their lives. I enjoy working with individuals, educators, schools, companies, summer camp programs, municipalities, organizations, and governmental entities as well as parents. My educational background includes a Master of Science in Education and under graduate degrees in Computer Science and Sociology. Having been a teacher, dancer, and counselor in a variety of therapeutic settings, my focus is now on coaching and training that provide the skills for living life fully, peacefully, and deeply.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a road of intense personal development as well as a time of focusing both on my family and on developing Whole Hearted Parenting. That made being clear on what was important and what could wait very important! Sometimes it has been messy and challenging and other times smooth sailing!

Whole Hearted Parenting – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Whole Hearted Parenting provides opportunities for parents, individuals, families, teens, schools, and organizations to develop the relationships and teams that they desire. In working with families, Whole Hearted Parenting is known for guiding parents to develop an underlying core of skills that supports them through challenges, allowing them to connect with their children from their hearts and to parent from their best selves. Parents become encouraged because they see themselves and their families in a new, fresh way. My focus right now is on coaching. I coach parents, individuals, and teens about family, career, school, relationships, going for what they desire, and living life fully. I am proud of our whole hearted approach. Whole Hearted Parenting is almost twenty years old, and our depth of experience sets us apart from others.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Every “bingo” moment when a parent sees a new way of communicating and connecting with their child is brilliant! It was also powerful watching a fourth grader have a break-through and experience his feelings of sadness at the loss of his two-year-old brother. This young boy moved from a place of rigid anger to one of emotional flexibility and joy. It was like his heart totally opened to life again.
