Check out Loic Ercolessis’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Loic Ercolessi.

Loic, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Art made introduced itself to me at age 8. After being admitted to a hospital for a disease that almost claimed me; I crossed path with a teenager who gave me one of his paintings as a token of our friendship. As I had a lot of time on my hand and nothing to fill it; drawing/ painting became an inherent part of my life.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is expressed through multiple mediums. From painting canvas, walls, clothes or even customized art pieces with acrylic, coffee, spray cans, collage, Vinyl or led every object can be brought to life under a new light. Whether it’s Banksy, Warhol or Daly; child soldiers, animal abuse or famous artist; I find inspiration in my surroundings.

You ask why, I say why not! Art is my way to share with others how I see, how I feel, how I communicate. It’s the language I use to let my surroundings know that I am not indifferent to what is happening and to push others to reflect on what we often take for granted: Life.

Nothing is to be taken seriously but then everything needs to have light shed on it. Movement and action starts with questions. I don’t bring answers. I just try to make people feel, react, reflect even, so they stop walking through life like every day is just another version of yesterday. No filters, no answers, just food for thoughts.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Not losing track of who we are in a culture that encourages us all to be ‘liked’ and ‘loved’ can be an everyday struggle. Since making a living out of one’s art is rarely an easy enterprise, we tend to look at what will sell and put on the side what we want to say. Even when people love what they see they rarely invest the money. There is no grid to determine how much our time is worth and an artist can be made or broken by only few words. One post from an adored or respected ‘Star’ will generate new trends but fame is like the wind: you only feel it when it’s here and it can be gone in a split second. Finding a balance between pleasing your audience and being true to your voice, between paying your bills and fueling your creativity has always been a battle for artists.

We also are living in times where messages should be sugar coated to avoid being on people’s government’s bad lists. And even though we live in a country where we do benefit from freedom of speech, we still have to choose our words wisely for things that you say today may come back and bite you tomorrow. The internet has made opinions permanent feeding you with more of what you already think and with little to no regards for the evolution of one’s mind, one’s concerns or one’s experiences. Marketing and branding can often be the enemy of creativity and therefor the artist’s enemy.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Some of my canvas and wall painting can be found at Nue Studio and it’s soon opening Barber shop, 4500 NW 2nd avenue Miami FL 33127 USA.
