Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyla Martinez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Keyla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a little girl, I started growing a passion for beauty. I remember being the only girl with lipstick for school pictures in elementary school. Playing dress up and wearing makeup for fun became my hobby. As I grew older, I would still wonder what career I was going to choose. I thought maybe teaching, but my passion was not strong enough, then I thought maybe nursing, but my stomach was too weak. While I wondered what route to take, my determination to grow and make my family proud someday didn’t change.
I graduated with a high school diploma at 16 years of age after attending high school for 9th and 10th grade and homeschooling for 11th and 12th. I visited several colleges with my mom but would always go back home after trying to figure out what I wanted to study and not being able to figure it out. The answer was there the entire time. They say, some people are born with a talent and I believe I was one of those people. I turned to my mother one day and said “I know what I want to be. I want to be a makeup artist and do it for a living”. Any other parent would’ve probably insisted in another career especially, at 16 years of age, but my mom believed in me and somehow knew the talent was in me and I would make it work. She drove me to a makeup store and bought an entire kit from products to makeup chair and case, a few hundred dollars spent for what others may have thought was a simple hobby and all those things would end up going to waste. I did not have a car back then yet I started to become known in the area for my work. My mother only had one day off from her job and would use that day to drive me to my makeup gigs and wait for me sometimes for an entire day.
Eleven years later, here I am, same determined girl with a passion making each of my dreams and goals come true thanks to that woman who believed in me. I now have a growing makeup business and have my own beauty studio at the age of 27. Not only do I specialize in makeup for weddings, photography, and events, but my love for beauty leads me into expanding my business by adding makeup classes, microblading, eyelash extensions and waxing to my list of beauty services. My career has to lead me to meet amazing people and travel to different cities for weddings as well as work for television, celebrities and tv shows such as WAGS Miami on E! and others.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I believe nothing in life is a fully smooth road. Everything has its challenges but there is nothing that you set your mind to that you can’t accomplish.
There have been many challenges throughout the years and moments where I have wanted to give up but that’s normal in every career. Even after the struggles and challenges, every day I feel blessed to be able to do what I love and wake up knowing I have succeeded.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Eye Creations by Keyla Beauty Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
I offer beauty services such as professional makeup for all events and television. eyebrow microblading, lash extensions, makeup lessons, and facial waxing. My company became known for beauty & bridal makeup and that is why makeup will always be such a big part of me and my career. I am proud of everything I have accomplished for myself and mainly for building a good name and reputation for my company. I can guarantee that my company will never disappoint. Customer service and quality work are a priority. I make sure all clients receive a response in a short time, try my best to schedule everyone and mainly, make sure they are satisfied with my work.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in good luck or bad luck. I believe that you choose your luck. Nothing in life comes easy. While others may call success “luck”, I call it hard work and long hours. I do feel very blessed that my business has received such a great response from clients and I have seen my hard work paying off.
