Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Romand.
Ella, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I’m a French-Brazilian woman who moved to the US to study music 12 years ago. Much has happened before – and after. I grew up listening to electronic music on the radio, playing the piano and eventually DJing. I moved to San Diego in 2006 and couldn’t continue playing as I wasn’t 21 years old and couldn’t enter the clubs. In that same year, I also had my entire collection of CDs (that I used to spin with) stolen. Later, when I moved to Miami in 2009 I got back to DJing while I was finishing my music degree. Since then, I’ve started my music studio at home, opened my own music company to book DJs and musicians (Mais Music), worked as music director and played in various events and Festivals, including III Points and Ultra.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make and breath music. I write melodies and create arrangements using piano and the computer. I’ve produced various types of music, from house tracks to chill out. I love to collaborate with artists, and I also love to write music when I’m on my own. I do it because I love it. It inspires me, it gives me chills and I hope I can create that feeling in other people too. Music has the power to transport people, to make them feel something, to touch them. I want touch my music and in doing so, I hope I can leave them feeling better, feeling hopeful.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
There are a lot of issues. Right now, we have music accessible on the tip of our fingers, and making music has never been so easy, yet it is hard to get your music heard and get recognition among so many artists. The musician today has to play many roles: he/she has to be a marketer, an audio engineer, videographer, entrepreneur and business person. All that has its pros and cons, but having talent and persistence, one is able to grow.
