Meet Timothy Carter of Timothycarterart in Lake Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Carter.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I returned to the US in August of 2015 after living in Ukraine for a few years. I began making decorative metal tables with mosaic tops. I used broken Mexican tiles to make the mosaics. I was asked to display my tables in a local gallery. This led me to meet an artist named Jeff Whyman. Who introduced me to the world of steel sculpture. After working with him nearly a year, he arranged for me to work and study sculpture in New York. I had an amazing experience working and studying with a fantastic steel sculptor in New York. In New York, I made many great friends that are inspiring artists. One of the most influential of these is Ken Hiratsuka, whose work can be seen right here in Miami. Ken has his stone sculpture in Wynwood Walls. Ken arranged for me to continue my working and studying art with a friend of his in Japan. Living and studying in Japan changed my life and gave me the confidence to start on my own as a sculptor.

This September, I will be making a large scale steel sculpture in China and it is definitely one of the proudest moments in my career.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes, there have been a few struggles on my road as a sculptor. I have found that they are really only just inside myself. As I become more deeply connected with myself, my struggles become less and less.

Timothycarterart – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in steel sculpture. Mostly, large-scale steel sculpture, in an abstract clean minimal style. I prefer the larger the better. I do large scale painting as well as ceramic sculpture.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being as to do a steel sculpture for an artist friend of mine that I really look up to. She asked me to make a sculpture for her home. I made a 7-foot abstract steel piece that is displayed in her yard.
