Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Morris.
Hi Paul, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey has always been rooted in creativity, but it has taken many different forms over the years. I grew up in Jamaica, where music was a major part of my life, and eventually moved to South Florida, where I continued developing myself as an artist, singer, and songwriter.
Music was my first love. I had the opportunity to compete on Jamaica’s Digicel Rising Star and became the winner, which opened doors for me to perform and tour internationally. I’ve had the opportunity to travel to more than 15 countries and work with talented people in the music industry, including Grammy Award-winning producer Tyshane Thompson. Those experiences taught me that being an artist is about much more than making music—it’s about understanding people, telling stories, and continuing to evolve.
Over time, I realized that my creativity couldn’t be limited to one medium. Photography and videography became another way for me to tell stories and connect with people. I began photographing events, nightlife, artists, and creative projects, and eventually started building my own creative spaces, including a recording studio and photography studio.
Today, I see myself as a multidisciplinary creative. Music is still at the center of who I am, but photography, videography, marketing, and digital strategy have become important parts of my journey as well. I’m constantly looking for ways to bring those worlds together and create opportunities for myself and for other creatives.
My path hasn’t been perfectly linear, and there have definitely been setbacks and moments where I’ve had to question what direction I was going in. But one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that the journey itself is part of the story. I’ve learned to keep creating, keep learning, and keep moving forward even when the results don’t happen as quickly as I would like.
At this point in my life, I’m focused less on simply being seen and more on building something that lasts. I want my music, photography, and creative work to leave an impact, open doors for other people, and ultimately become part of the legacy I leave behind.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. If anything, some of the biggest lessons in my life have come from the periods when things didn’t go according to plan.
One of the biggest challenges has been trying to build a creative career while also creating financial stability for myself. Music and photography are industries where you can put in a tremendous amount of work without immediately seeing a financial return. There have been times when I’ve had to balance my creative ambitions with a full-time career and the responsibilities that come with being an adult and a father.
I’ve also had to deal with the frustration of knowing that I have the talent, experience, and ideas to do more, while sometimes feeling like the opportunities or resources haven’t matched the level of what I’m trying to accomplish. That can be difficult, especially when you see other people moving forward and wonder when your own breakthrough is going to happen.
Another challenge has been learning how to navigate relationships and partnerships. As someone who genuinely enjoys helping people, I’ve sometimes given too much of my time, energy, or creativity without establishing clear boundaries. I’ve had experiences that taught me that not everyone you build with is necessarily meant to go the entire journey with you. Learning to recognize that without becoming bitter has been an important part of my growth.
There have also been moments when I’ve had to reinvent myself. Instead of looking at photography, music, videography, education, and my professional career as completely separate things, I’ve started looking at them as pieces of a much bigger picture. Each experience has given me another skill that I can bring into the next chapter.
One thing that has kept me going is something my father taught me: everything is happening around you, not to you. That perspective has helped me look at difficult experiences differently. I don’t always understand why something is happening while I’m going through it, but I try to ask myself what I can learn from it and how I can use it to move forward.
So no, the road hasn’t been smooth. But I don’t think it was supposed to be. The obstacles have forced me to become more disciplined, more selective about who I allow into my space, and more intentional about the legacy I’m trying to build.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work sits at the intersection of music, photography, videography, and creative strategy. I started primarily as a singer and songwriter, but over the years I’ve expanded into visual storytelling because I realized that I don’t just want to create the soundtrack to a story—I want to help create the visual world around it too.
As a musician, I specialize in writing and performing music that draws from my experiences, relationships, emotions, and observations about life. My sound has evolved over time, but I’ve always been interested in blending soulful elements with hip-hop and contemporary sounds. I’ve released music independently and continue to build a catalog that I hope can eventually reach film, television, and other visual projects.
Photography and videography have become another major part of my creative work. I’m particularly interested in events, nightlife, artists, fashion, and capturing moments that have energy and personality. I enjoy being in environments where there is movement and creativity because I’m not just looking to take a technically good photograph—I want the image to tell you something.
What I’m most proud of is the fact that I’ve continued to create and reinvent myself instead of allowing one chapter of my life to define me. I’ve performed internationally, won Digicel Rising Star, worked with established people in the music industry, built my own recording and photography spaces, developed my skills behind the camera, and continued educating myself in areas like marketing and digital strategy.
What sets me apart is that I understand the creative process from multiple sides. I can be the artist in front of the camera, the photographer or videographer behind it, and the person thinking about how the final product should be marketed and presented. That perspective allows me to understand what other creatives are trying to communicate because I’ve been in their position myself.
I also think my biggest advantage is that I’m still hungry. I’ve accomplished things I’m proud of, but I don’t feel like I’ve arrived. There are still songs I want to release, stories I want to photograph, films and visual projects I want to contribute to, and creative ideas I want to bring to life.
Ultimately, I want my work to be recognized for authenticity. Whether someone hears one of my songs or sees one of my photographs, I want them to feel that there is a real person and a real story behind it.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to be intentional with my time, energy, and relationships. I’ve learned that not every opportunity is meant for me, and not everyone is meant to come along for the entire journey.
I’ve also learned not to wait for permission to create the life and career I want. Sometimes you have to create your own opportunities, keep learning, and stay consistent even when the results aren’t immediate.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that growth isn’t always about how far you’ve come—it’s about continuing to evolve.
